Tiscali looking to sell up
mega pixels
17-12-2006
Tiscali has put its UK division up for sale with a price tag of up to £600m.

In August, Tiscali acquired Video Networks, a niche internet broadcast business based in London.

BSkyB, Orange, Carphone Warehouse, NTL and BT are all likely to be interested in the business.

It is understood that it hopes to complete the sale of its UK arm by March.

Excellent, more months of no change while they change ownership yet again.

Just got another 4 months maxpack free. The guy I spoke to at HC says he's not aware of any UK sellout by Tiscali and that they "would not be selling something they've just bought/ merged with."

I gave him the Indy details and thanked him for renewing the free offer.

Whilst this may mean that yep, there's yet more delays while they're getting a new owner, this could be good news eventually for Homechoice if someone like Sky or Orange buy it.

If Sky buy the company, then finally the Sky channels will join. Orange have been talking about their own IPTV service for a while now - and they've got enough 'clout' to get some good channels on the service. If BT buy it, they'll probably just downgrade it to their new BT Vision service (Freeview + VOD).

Carphonewarehouse will probably just want Tiscali's broadband subscribers and wont be interested in Homechoice as an IPTV service.

Whatever happens though, this probably does mean the end of 'Homechoice' as a brand.

It's interesting - if the rumor is true then it might explain why HC have given (some of) us another 4 months free: ie that they're employing the same tactic as before by keeping subscriber numbers up ahead of a sale (which is why they did it first time round when selling to Tiscali).

how do you know it's fake
besides at the end of the day if it's true it's a good thing Hc's out of Tiscalis hands

I know it sounds strange, but I think Homechoice becoming part of Orange could work out the best. BT and Sky would cannibalise HC, but Orange could offer it as a real alternative, and they've already got national coverage. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the service to improve, hint: PVR, picture quality?
