So it used to be the case that you could ring Orange and get your PAC code over the phone, give it to your new network and 5 days later your number is transferred. Not so anymore. They dont issue it over the phone, but by letter. I was quoted 4 - 5 days for the letter to arrive, plus obviously the 5 working days for the number to transfer, which effectively means they get to keep a dissatisfied customer for 10 days. 10 days of spending. 5 extra days of spending for the cost of a letter.

Wonder what the other networks do......

So out of almost 10 years, you're complaining you have to wait 10 days? Right....

Its a company out to make money, why would you expect them to immediately choose to loose customers so quickly, its only 5 days. seems fair to me,

Does anyone here know how Orange cancellations work? I want to switch to T-Mobile next month when my Orange contract is up, and port my number.
My billing date is the 10th, and I took out the contract on the 20th Jan. How much notice would I need to give them to not pay an extra month?

Well the issue is poor customer service and a problem in my area which has been going on for some time.

I finally said enoughs enough and wanted to leave, expecting to get my PAC number straight away meaning my number would be ported in 5 days, but now I have to wait for the letter (which still hasnt arrived - christmas post I am guessing!) meaning further delays and time spent with a useless network.

o2 (well last year) sent out PAC codes via a letter - they stopped doing it over the phone as well

Phoned up o2 this morning to get a PAC code for a PAYG sim - they asked for some details like frequently called numbers, and last top-up date and method. Then they just handed the code to me over the phone.
It wasn't actually my SIM, I was doing it for a relative - I guessed at all the answers. Scary.
