Silence: The atmosphere demanded to enjoy SCD at it's best.

Partners may sit in same room, but must observe the silence rule at all times, unless opinion is called for. Said opinion must at all times concur with forumites views!

ds: a second home to those who are ever so slightly obsessed by SCD :P

OH:

abbreviation of "Other Half".

The OH's role in the life of an SCD afficionado is make sure the teacup/wineglass is kept topped up during the performances; not to wince too much during excessive perving of our favourites; to agree with all our technical observations (regardless of the amount of knowledge we possess in this regard); not to change the pc's wallpaper when we have carefully chosen our favourite screencap; not to question the phone bill when it arrives (it's for CHARITY for goodness sake); and to pick us up when we have fallen prey to the occupational hazard of frequent thuddage.

It is NOT the OH's role to take the mickey out of our obsession at every opportunity (or they will suffer the consequences).

eternity:
a word that should only be used to describe the period between one scd and another.

this period should also not be attempted without the frequent use of ds

edit: or youtube!

Nine - the number that Craig (see above) cannot go above in anything but the final!

Gilberto:

A film producer extraordinaire, Gilberto is the Cecil B. De Mille of SCD. The dvd produced by Gill combines the epic scale of David Lean, the thrills of Quentin Tarantino, the romance of Richard Curtis, the drama of Martin Scorsese, with the feelgood factor of Steven Spielberg.

The fact that the dvd was produced on a shoestring budget with all profits going to charity means that "to do a Gilberto" in film-makers parlance now means just that - a quality low budget film in aid of good causes. Expect to hear the phrase uttered by Jonathan Ross any day soon!

I am embarrassed now!

Thank you for your kind words.

I've thought of another word for the dictionary:-

Petorials - muscles that only Craig has! Everyone else has pectorals!

An old favourite - and a few variants.

Muppetgate (noun): a somewhat unexpected and catastrophic end to a hurdle race.

Moppetgate (noun): the unsolicited production of cute offspring, in an attempt to invoke viewer sympathy.

Stannagate (noun): the unsolicition production of elderly relatives, in an attempt to invoke viewer sympathy.

Shortenmyskirtgate (noun): the slashing of garment length, in a desperate attempt to avoid going out of the competition. (As yet a slight tendency in SCD but sadly more prevalent in DOI)

2: as used by Rampants ,a joyful outburst upon seeing a particularly fetching photo of GMR , or Karen if it is a Male who is doing the outbursting .

Personal Space Invader:

Professional dancer who, accustomed to using their body as a tool of their trade, forgets that pro/celeb happy place interface may be disconcerting to the celebrity dancer; particularly one who is used to their happy place being protected by a box, a bat and a pair of cricket pads in their normal line of work.

Journey:

noun; used to describe the long, and often painful transformation necessary to achieve a top placing in SCD, supposedly against the odds. When using the word, the speaker is required to mime inverted commas with the first two fingers of each hand.

Early references were found during SCD3 in relation to Darren Gough's sudden improvement, but unfortunately a bbc internal memo decreed that the word became compulsory in all references to Matt Dawson during SCD4, and it therefore fell out of favour due to overuse. However, a substitute was quickly found - "the J word" - and it was deemed perfectly acceptable to use this instead for the remainder of the ITT run.

Legend:

Word used to describe a strictly come dancing pro or even celeb.
Often used in connection to Karen Hardy.
