If you could invent a Torchwood character...

What would you make them like?

Im not entirely sure if this sort of thread is allowed, but I thought it might be interesting to see what kind of characters people would like if they could have them.

I'd have someone who believes in Queen and Country and will do anything to accomplish her mission

The Doctor's hand regenerates itself into a full-size Doctor who falls in love with Jack. And then Tosh. And then Gwen. Etc etc.

A new Torchwood member who is really a spy for an unknown person/being. They could be as nice as rain on the outside but inside she/he's plotting to rid of Torchwood and to take any alien technology needed to take over not only the Earth but other worlds.

The spy's boss could remain hidden until the end of series. This person could end up being someone from the Doctor's past or even Torchwood's past (Susie again somehow?)

Another person could be a 'Torchwood inspector'. The royal family who until now have shown no knowledge of Torchwood have decided to rebuild Torchwood One and to inspect the other Torchwoods. This person could get on all the team members nerves as they critise they way they work but is nice at heart and even helps Torchwood in a few tight spots.

Some kind of professional 'secret service' individual who would probably outrank Jack. At the minute they have the tech, the medic, the investigator, the lackey... and Jack, who just doesn't seem to work as a leader but might make a great second-in-command. So somebody who maybe doesn't go out in the field but stays in Torchwood directing the others, giving Jack freedom to improvise without giving everybody else such free reign. At the the minute none of them seem to act like a team, keeping things from each other and not facing any disciplinary action when they royally screw things up by doing so.

Torchwood doesn't need to be a strict military operation, but they could do with tightening up a little.

Someone celibate would be a nice change.

It might be useful to have a really scary and enduring "baddy" who's seen as a serious threat over more than one episode, as this would surely help to focus the Torchwood team a bit. They don't seem to gel, in my opinion. Maybe it would help if the writers just concentrated on one theme for two or three episodes because, to be honest, I think TW is trying to be all things to all men at present. Give them their due, we've had fairies, aliens, cannibals, ghosts, time travel, and a workshop on come-faces. But the end result lacks continuity and is a bit jerky (in more ways than one!).

But what does Jack use the hand for?

That sounds vaguely reminiscent of the original Wesley character from Buffy/Angel. And since the Whedon-loving Mr Davies seems to have based a lot of Torchwood on Angel in particular (undead, long coat-wearing, brooding hero, anybody?) you might not be far off the mark with this.
