u need to know what compinents you have first, motherboard, soundcard graphics card , the most important being your motherboard to start with, normally you can download a full mobo drivers and utils disc from your manufacturer website.

easiest way to find out is start menu , programs , accessories system tools system information, this will give you the make and model of your motherboard

No. Think there is some confusion regarding what you're after. If you're simply trying to have your internet connection working there is no need for the HC CD. There is nothing required on it to make your connection work.

There used to be a driver for the old connection which was via USB.
It's not used or needed with the new boxes which connect via the LAN.

Ok, mmm I think mine is USB. My box is about 2 years old I guess.

Sorry to sound ignorant, how do I know the difference.

I plug it into the USB port on my PC.

twell if it goes in the usb port you have the old usb one, no problem because win xp supports usb and has the drivers built in. its only if your using win 95/98 that you need to download and install usb drivers otherwise all is good and xp should auto detect it all.

happy xmas!

Thanks but it doesnt seem to auto detect it. It detects its plugged in and then says can't find the drivers.

if you have the new'ish settop box the one with the big square blue light in the front,
and it is connected to your pc via usb
yes you need drivers which are on the homechoice install cd
what you have sounds like a usb to Lan (network) converter
which homechoice supply if you havent a Lan/network port on the motherboard or card.

I really carnt see it being an older type settop box now with the faster speeds homechoice supply which is usb
but that one has three different parts to it which include
a modem a small settop box and a little converter with a small bright blue flashing light but that only lights up and flashs once your connected to the internet.

so i would get on to homechoice now for them to send you a cd before its to late with christmas n' all

tw

Yep you are spot on. We phoned HC and we need the CD, so I won't get that now until Wednesday which is slightly annoying but can't blame HC for Xmas

I've found my CD with the USB drivers on. I can email them to you if you can give me an email address (I'd suggest a free web mail one you won't normally use as once you put your email address on a forum you're likely to get loads of spam).

It would be better if you just call the Tech Team at HC and ask them for a new CD as yours has been damaged - they're free and will be posted out to you.

She's already done that, just thought she may like them before next week rather than miss out over Christmas.
