Why do you all 'want' SCD to beat Corrie yet similarly want EastEnders to win? Strange.

EastEnders will probably get just over 11 million viewers I think. Higher than last year seeing as it's the death of Pauline. SCD will most likely beat Coronation Street because BBC One will dominate Christmas Day and with a lead in from Doctor Who, it can't not do well. Corrie will hold up well though so I don't think the margin will be too wide.

The soaps don't tend to get beaten at Christmas time though. I cannot remember that ever happening. The 6.30 EastEnders will do well but is going against another showing of Harry Potter, then the evening one will be up against Doc Martin so I just don't know.

One thing I hve noticed is that The Green Green Grass and My amily are on Christmas Day and haven't been trailed at all!!

Coronation Street was beaten by Doctor Who last year and two days after SCD got nearly 12 million viewers, making it the most watched show of the week, I don't see why both it and DW can't beat Corrie.

The second EastEnders will be the most watched show of the evening, no doubt. Doc Martin will do relatively well but it's no competition for EE.

I was thinking about the shos that go directly against the soaps. This year Who is head to head with Emmerdale.

Well Doctor Who will win over Emmerdale, no doubt about that. And I have a feeling SCD will win over Corrie as well.

Unsurprisingly, the time change harmed Coronation Street. Expect it to be beaten by EastEnders for the rest of the week now and into the new year.

ITV1 is holding up very well considering they have no real incentive this week from a commercial perspective.

Am I the only one who finds BBC's reliance on soaps, Casualty and its spin off's almost as trite as ITV's reliance on soap & Heatbeat?

I still don't understand why ITV switched Corrie and Heartbeat - I don't think it did Corrie any favours either. By the time it was 8:30pm we had better things to do than sit around waiting for it to start!!

Those are poor ratings for Christmas Eve. Only Calendar Girls comes out of that with its head held high. Uninspiring schedules though all round. No surprise that the nation decided to go to the pub instead.

ITV1 is not holding up well, where is the kind of drama and xmas specials that we used to watch on ITV ,WELL THEY ARE NOW GONE, the schedule for the main commercial channel is bland, boring and not very seasonal , where as the BBC have xmas specials galore, granted i did not watch them all but at least you can tell its xmas when you watch them, watching itv is like watching it on any other day of the year.
ITV need to take a hard look at the shat that they call xmas day telly and then plan for next year to do better, personally I think ITV is this bad as all the muppets who planned it are on hols abroad and don't care what on back home.

MESSAGE TO ITV ITS CHRISTMAS YOU FCUKING MUPPETS.

Your constant ITV bashing in every single thread is quickly making your opinion worthless

What does demon dog think about X Y & Z on ITV? No point asking because he will slag it off before he even knows what it is

Really rubbish ratings for ITV last night - Heartbeat 3 million down on what it usually has and Corrie 2 million down. The dumb schedule change really didnt't work did it.

EastEnders did very well considering it was on against HB - a programme that usually gets similar ratings and it had 30 mins head start.

The best performance of the night has to go to Casualty - 7.5 million against Corrie is outstanding.

Another night with big ratings for BBC1 and poor ratings for ITV1.

Based on the Quality and variety of BBC1's output today from Who to Dibley and the seminal Eastenders I'm going for a clean sweep all the way for BBC1.

Who will have thrashed Emmerdale I reckon, bear in mind although not head to head during the world cup Who was getting double the audience of Emmerdale despite the fact it was broadcast on some of the hottest weekends of 2006.

Time will tell...

I'm sure the fact that BBC1 showed a Sunday episode of EastEnders is the reason for all of that

I can't belive people are standing there thinking "I wonder why Heartbeat did so poorly? maybe people are bored of it etc" it'd pretty obvious

Or they went to the pub and PVR'd the programmes now that PVRs and Sky+/TV Drive are more commonplace. Overnights seem to be becomong less and less reliable due to the amount of timeshifting that is going on now.

Well last week's Heartbeat got 8.2 million and many in previous weeks have got over 9 million, so its a big drop. It just shows people chose EE over HB.

And people usually turn over to ITV when Corrie is on - but for Casualty to be pretty much unaffected by it is extremley impressive.

Writing this from "back at the folks'" (where I tend to go with the flow and make sure I've PVRd what I really want to see), I was surprised to see that after EastEnders finished at 7, the unanimous decision of the extended family was to watch Deal or No Deal (a decision with which I happily concurred), and then watch SCD at 8.

The significance of this should not be underestimated because at least 4 of the adults here tonight would tune in to Emmerdale and Coro St on their deathbeds and record 2 wks worth of episodes when they go on holiday. So if we're representative of the nation, then SCD could well have beaten Coro St, although I still think that's unlikely.

By the way, can anyone confirm whether ITV1's schedule tonight in fact ran:

7-8.05 Emmerdale
8.05 Coro St
9.05 Doc Martin

...in an attempt to cling on to what viewers they've got and "spoil" the start of BBC1's programming. I suspected they might try it, and noticed that Emmerdale was clearly still running-on well after 8 - but as the Sykes household was ITV1-free all day long apart from some random flicking round after DoND, I couldn't confirm.

If so, it didn't really work because BBC1 came close to running 7.00/8.05/9.05/9.35 and LBA starting a mite earlier than billed at 10.28.

A bit of a bugger for anyone who's PVRd stuff today!

Yes, the scheduling was off on both ITV1 and BBC One, with them both running late, and BBC One all of a sudden running early by the time Little Britain came on. Thankfully Doctor Who didn't clash with Corrie, nor did Corrie clash with EastEnders so if that was ITV's plan it didn't work.

EastEnders will probably do well, although God knows why because I didn't think much of it at all.

Possibly but the BBC do the same on a night when ITV has a strong schedule too

I might be that the programmes didn't fit exactly to the slots, what with them all being funny times. I noticed a lot of padding with trailers on BBC1 in the early afternoon and around the Strictly Come Dancing preview

Not that surprised - the early schedules I saw had VoD down for 50 mins, so I was surprised to see it billed as a 1 hour slot in the final published version. I suspected this might have been to allow for some flexibility on the day.
