High School Musical's a really tough one to predict - really popular, but only really popular with girls of 14 and under. Films which rate really well are one's which the whole family like - like Pirates of the Caribbean. And probably most people who want to see it have i already seen it quite recently.

Thanks a lot for the ratings !

Eastenders got the well deserved top spot and Well done to Emmerdale getting 9 million. Corrie didn't do too well. and I thought High school musical would have had at least 5 million.

I'm not too surprised that High School Musical flopped. It was a strange slot for a movie the BBC had flagged up in its season launch, but which they haven't given any promotion to. It was almost as if they didn't know what to do with it. It wasn't shown in Scotland though, although I suspect that won't have dented its ratings too much.

ITV's 8.30 experiment with Coro St this week hasn't really worked out, although its boosted Emmerdale, no doubt with Coro viewers tuning in expectantly.

Mrs Henderson did much better than expected, whilst the Jacko doc vanished without trace - <2.8m is not very good for 9pm Friday on ITV1, even at Christmas!

The 6.45pm ITV News has been the surprise performer of the Christmas period - I think it's beaten all comers this week, apart from Monday.

Not that surprising really. You'd imagine that Emmerdale viewers will also watch Coro St, so if they tune in at 7 for Emmerdale and find a Best of Coro clip show, they'll stay tuned.

Likewise, Coro St viewers who don't normally watch Emmerdale will have tuned in at 7.30 expecting their soap and may have decided to stay put.

The ratings for ITV News and "London Tonight" are also massive as well

No doubt due to High School Musical flopping and also the BBC's teatime news being pushed much earlier in the schedule

Yes, the time change helped Emmerdale but my god did it harm Coronation Street - third place, beaten by not only EastEnders but also Emmerdale. I don't think ITV will repeat that experiment again for some time. 9 million viewers is great for Emmerdale though, especially since it's of such a high quality atm, IMO.

Figures for High School Musical slightly misleading - wasn't shown in Scotland.

I thought After Thomas was worthy......but dull. My aunt really wanted to see it (nobody was bothered with POTC at all...) but even she was nodding off halfway through it. I gave up on it with about 30 minutes to go,when I found myself nodding off to it too.

Like I said, worthy but dull.

PS enjoyed the drama with Chris Ecclestone though - much better IMHO
