Advice needed for new ipod
Rose18
23-12-2006
I have just gotten a new ipod as a Christmas present and I want to copy all of the songs from my old ipod onto my new one. Only problem is as my computer is only new all of the songs on my ipod are not in my itunes library so I can't copy them.

Anyone any ideas how I can get the songs from my old ipod onto my new one.

Any advice appreciated!!!

Thanks

Can't you copy them to your new PC and then transfer them to your new iPod?

I had to transfer all my songs from my Zen touch to my Zen Vision M last week. As I didn't have them on my PC, I just transferred them to my PC and then to my Zen M. Easy.

Although you cannot copy from the iPod to the PC you can buy a program called Copypod- available by download - that will allow you to do this.

Yes you can. Here is how to do it :

1. In itunes select ipod nano in the source list and click the options button.

2. Click music and select "enable disk use".

3. Go to MY COMPUTER and in your available drives, the ipod can be found.

You should be able to swap/copy or delete files easily from there.

Unfortunately it's the problem with DRM and other restrictions that make it difficult to back up your music wether it's yours or not. It's the worst part of owning an Ipod, which is unfortunate, at least it's not as complicated as backing up a 'plays for sure' music store track which involves backing up the files and then backing up the licences separately, and hoping it all works when restoring the backed up files at a later date, especially if you can't remember which store you bought the music from, or if the store you bought the music from has changed the web address of it's DRM server, meaning you'll never recover the licence to play the music ever again leaving a bunch of useless unplayable files wasting space on your hard drive, almost making you wish you had downloaded illegal copies of the files instead, a lot less trouble. It does make the ipods DRM seem so much more friendlier in comparison.
