My two month old TV just blew (nice smell of burnt resistor).

I need a new 32" tomorrow!!

Were talking Curry's/ Comet etc.

I need it to likely be in stock (obviously) and I needs it to be good, but not the best (at this stage I'm not going to go out of my way to get the best TV at the best possable price)

I have around £600 although I would go up to £800

(The TV that blew was a Woolworth technosonic, which was due to be fixed on the 27th due to a stock fault)

edit:-
hdtv
widescrren
..etc etc

Another vote for samsung. Ive got a 32" Samsung R7 (LE32R74BDX - there about £600 now).

Though if your willing to spend £800 you could get a N7 now (LE32N73BD) which is supposedly much better.

The Samsung R series aren't too reliable, get the Toshiba 32WLT66, have a word with the manager at Comet and they may even match the web price!

thanks guys got a 32WLT66 in the end, I have had a few tellies from Tosh which I am happy with.

I managed to get it for the web price, if I purchased it with a three year guarantee (which I believe is an illegal condition). However I have 45 days to cancel the guarantee, which I will be doing.

I would not believe a word from anybody at Comet/Curreys/PC World etc. Their product knowledge is abysmal.

I have two Samsungs one 26" and one 32" both fantastic sets. Watched Polar Express yesterday with the sound through my surround system. The picture was almost as good as HD. Stunning.

Here! Here! Not once in going into any of those shops have I ever been told the simple truth !, which is...

if someone walked upto me and asked my opinion of which Tv was best I would say stand in front of it an first of all see if you like what you see without the tv turned ON..!! the thing is gonna be on view in YOUR living room..! then turn the tv on and play with the settings for 5 minutes see if you like the picture..? if the answer is no to the first 2 questions then move onto the next tv and so on and so forth until you are totally happy with all the various aspects of the Tv, please remember that no company makes the prefect Tv otherwise the answer would be simple..!!

But these people start but trying to sell a certain brand too you, because what you don't know is the profits are bigger on that tv than the others..! nothing to do with how good the tv is...!!

Remember "One man's wine is another man's vinegar!!"

Just have a look at some of these shops the way they have very high tech TV sets running the most appalling low grade input material. For example a "HD" TV with an analogue input that has been split numerous times resulting in a very low grade signal.

Okuda has given very good advice!!! Check it out yourself!!!

Fixerman/Okuda,

Not all employees at Comet/Currys/PC World etc are like that, some people genuinely have an interest in what they sell, and reap the rewards of knowing what they're selling.

I personally work in one of the multiples, and regularly maintain the TV dept, alongside PCs, if you go into a store where no one takes pride in their areas, then fair enough.

But, if you come into a store like the one i work in, then you'd see a completely different atmosphere, the TVs all look their best, 80% of HD ready sets are showing a HD display/demo, everything's neat, everything's tidy, and last but not least, everyone knows what they're talking about...

Oh, and Okuda, none of the multiples now pay commission, it doesn't matter if someone buys at Goodmans at £600 or a Sony at £600, the rewards to the seller are identical...

There's no longer staff incentives to sell particular items, in order to try and stop the confusion and mis-selling.

There's nothing worse than mis-selling an item to a customer, if you do, they'll not return, if, however, you do your job right, be informative, smart and professional, then customers will always return to you.

RANT OVER.

Well done telly-man! I was of course speaking in general terms based on my personal experience here in the West London area. I can accept that there are exceptions and I did not wish to cause offence. If I did I can only apologise.

PS: I can recall buying an item in Currys Beverley and asking the assistant directions to the nearest florist. She left the shop and walked with me to the florist. Such kindness is no longer shown in this neck of the woods but it is refreshing to know that it is alive and well in the North.

Sorry Telly_Man don't take it personnelly, but I never meant that the sales people get extra money for selling cetain Tv's it's more like that they are told to TRY and sell certain models more than others due too over stocking or having to clear the stock for a newer model arriving soon..!! It's the same for clothes shops etc etc..! That's the way the whole world works..! Me personnelly have NEVER come across a sales person in any electrical shop that knew what they were talking about..!! So if you ever move to Southend I would be glad to know that at least one outlet had someone that cared about what they are selling, not like it is round here staffed by kids from the local "UNI" for extra cash..!!

Fair enough.

I've only worked in electrical retail for about 18 months, and the only time i've been told to try and actively sell something is when it's clearance (ie, last one on display and reduced).
