We've been looking to buy a Widescreen LCD TV for around £200-£250. The best one we've seen is the LOGIK LCX19LN1 from Dixons/Currys for £229.99. I can't find any reviews for it and wondered if anyone had bought this set and what their experiences were with it or LOGIK TV's in general.

Hello,

I don't know about modern Logik TVs but I've had one for over fifteen years and it hasn't missed a beat. And nothing has gone wrong with the remote control either, which is a change.

I bought this one on Tuesday.

Very good picture and sound quality. Better than my dads Goodmans 19" LCD.

Only thing is for me anyway the sound. I have it set to the lowest before mute and it is fine for day to day. So if it is for a bedroom like mine is, you can't turn it down if your partner wants to go to sleep.

And I can't get my Sky+ remote to work with it yet. Going to start a thread now.

Also spotted this on another post:

Also, I occasionally need to use the TV at low volume, and the lowest setting is still quite loud. I was wondering if there's a service menu where the volume range can be adjusted?

Logik is just a "House Brand" used by Dixons and Currys. The sets are sourced from many different manufacturers, so experiences of previous models aren't particularly relevant.

Obviously since Dixons/Currys are responsible for the support (and the associated costs), they do tend to pick reasonably decent products.

Thanks for that. We've gone ahead and bought it! Should get it delivered sometime next week. I sympathise about the problem with the Sky remote. I had a Daewoo TV and that refused to work with the Sky remote. When I got a Panasonic one it worked straight away!

I think I saw a Samsung 19" TV/monitor (widescreen) in PC World for £229... seemed like a very good deal and they have a Samsung 17" TV/Monitor for £159 which is also pretty good deal.

Hardly, they use the Logik name on what they can buy in cheap, quality isn't a concern, Likewise they use the Matsui name, and were (until recently) using the Grundig name. As suggested, you've no way of knowing what make the TV actually is!.

Goodmans by the way is a similar 'House Brand' used by Comet, although there are other cheap sets branded Goodmans as well (from the Goodmans speaker people).

Although price is their main concern at this end of the market, they do actually put the products they buy through a vigorous evaluation procedure. Being both the importer and retailer, any quality problems (and the associated costs) end up with Dixons/Currys, so they have nothing to gain (and a lot to lose) if they knowingly buy unreliable products.

The set we eventually bought was £249 (instore) on Xmas Eve then on 27th it was £229 but we got it for £187 with a discount code for £42.99 doing a search on the internet. I have always found Matsui to be a good relaible make and tend to agree with the last post about quality and relaibility.

Hi Ivesy,

Are you happy with the set? At £187 it looks a bit of a bargain.

Some questions:

Does it have a true 16:9 mode?
Is a wall bracket included?
What discount code did you use, I can't find any for currys at the moment.

Ta,

Chris

YOu're right on logik being the cheapest stff available on the whole. I know some Goodmans is for Comet, but lots is made by Alba Plc and sold in lots of places. I guess Alba licence the brand to Comet (in the same way JVC brand in used for DSG in house leads, although I believe that's switching to Logik).

It's hard to know who makes what, but Comet have had the rights to the Goodmans name for a great many years, way before any Alba involvement.

It's also hard to know what Alba are up to?, they have always been a cheap non-descript brand (originally named for A. J. Balcombe) - but lots of these cheap brands seem to have joined together, or been taken over etc.

Alba and Beko currently hold the rights to the Grundig name.

Heard today that Dixon's group are selling Ferguson (a name which had disappeared), presumably made for them by Thomson?.

Thomson sold off their multimedia division (TV, Video etc) to a Chinese company, seeing as Thomson bought Ferguson I wonder if they sold Ferguson brand name to the Chinese as well or maybe sold it to Dixons?

It's certainly impossible to keep up with who owns what.

Thomson were very clever, back in the late 1980's /1990's they bought up many struggling European electronic companies (and some others like RCA) like Ferguson, Saba, Normende, Telefunken, Brandt and some others..these companies had developed many of the technologies used worldwide in TV, video, radio and transmission systems (like PAL) and so held the patents, so Thomson got to own a lot of patents and earnt a nice bundle from licencing.

To answer your questions:

I am VERY happy with the set my only small niggles are that it doesn't work with my Sky remote (that's really not a prblem as the volume never goes beyond 1 anyway!) the picture on light programmes (Sky Masters Soccer springs to mind here) was very bright and needed darkening while watching movies with dark scenes it needed lightning as it was too dark! This is something I've never had to do with "normal" TV's!

It has has a 'wide' button on the remote that fills out the picture. My Sky box is set to 16:9 so when a movie comes on it fills the screen automatically.

It can be wall mounted but it didn't come with the brackets.

And finally to get the code I just typed LCX19LN1 into Google and the top item gives a link to the code. After that I entered LG25 on the order form and got £42 off!

Hope that helps.

I want to make contact with Logic because I can't work out how to connect a VHS player, a CD player and an Inductive loop connection to my Logik 46HD Model 46fe22 . Can anyone help?

It's a DSG in house brand - so KnowHow are their service and repair division.

https://www.knowhow.com/

Having said that - a VHS player should be a simple connection using either SCART or AV inputs.

Why do you want to connect a CD player to your TV? That said use the 'audio in' - red/white phono connections.

The inductive loop is more interesting - what are you trying to do? The spec I've found said there is a headphone socket which *might* do what you want, but it depends.....

Logik are a "brand" name used exclusively by Currys. So good luck trying to get anything remotely technical out of them. may as well try stopping some random cat on the street and asking that, you'll likely get just as intelligent an answer

As for the actual question.

The VHS player simply plugs into the SCART socket. Though going by this

http://www.partmaster.co.uk/tv-proje...el_ref=2544154

Looks like the Logik has one of those mini SCART sockets so you may need an adapter like the one above if you don't already have it. Pity it's not available from Partmaster though. May be a trip to the nether regions of ebay to try and find one if you've lost the one that came with the telly.

Not sure why you would want to connect a CD player to a TV but there should be an AV input on the TV with the red and white stereo audio sockets you could use.

The inductive loop I'm assuming is for some sort of hearing aid? If so it would plug into something like an audio out or the headphone socket. Trouble is I'm not sure the Logik has either. the manual, available here

http://www.partmaster.co.uk/manuals/...%20L46FE22.pdf

doesn't seem to show any audio output of any kind on the connection diagram. So that could be a problem.

I found specs that said it has a Headphone socket as well. But the manual (see link above) doesn't show one.

As others have said, it's a cheap Currys own brand, you need to contact Currys - but at least there's more hope than with Tesco's own brands

There's no such company as Logik, it's just a badge.

Many thanks for your answer. I have contacted Currys but I wonder how long they take to respond.

They will probably tell you what you have already been told in this thread.

You connect the VHS machine via SCART using the adapter cable as the TV has a mini SCART socket.

You connect the CD player to the audio red and white sockets of the AV input on the rear of the TV ignoring the video connections.

As for the inductive loop it looks very much like that is a no go as the TV appears to have no form of audio out at all. It might have something on the SCART but then you have the problem of sharing that with the VHS and also it might not output everything but only provide audio from the built in tuner in the TV.

The manual I linked to above should give you some of the answers to your questions.

In fact Curries replied within an hour or so with much the same information as you gave me. Now all I need to do is to find an adapter cable with a mini SCART socket that can connect to CD player to the audio red and white sockets of the AV input on the rear of the TV ignoring the video connections.

Having said that as I also want to connect a VHS player to the TV to play old family tapes I believe that I need to connect to the Video connections. I hope.
