Motorola V220 on the Vodafone network?
Sun_Beam
27-12-2006
After starting a previous thread in here regarding choosing a mobile, I've decided to buy the Motorola V220 mobile. I originally wanted it on the Vodafone network as I've heard good things about it, but a friend of mine told me that you can't get that phone type on that network, and that I'd have to choose from either T-Mobile, Virgin, Orange or O2. Now, being someone who's knowledge on mobiles are limited, I dont know wether this is strictly true or not. A lot of people I've spoke to have told me not to get T-Mobile as the recepetion is rubbish, and that Virgin is the same, too.... but I've heard good things about Vodafone, which is pointless if I cant get that partiuclar phone on the Vodafone network. Therefore, out of the other two, I'd rather opt for Orange. Then again, it all depends on each of their call and text prices.

Can anyone enlighten me as to wether this friend was right or wrong in telling me this information, and roughly how much the calls and texts are for each of the network providers?

Btw, on the Motorola website, it shows and lists the colour of the flip pohone as Silver, yet everywhere else it's pictured as Black? What's the true colour of the phone?

Thanks in advance!

No idea, but you can only buy Vodafone phones through Phones 4 U now I believe, which is why your friend may have said it's unavailable.

Virgin uses T-Mobile's network so will have the same coverage. I'm currently on 3 and have found their coverage to be reasonable, but you need to check them for your area first.

Eh?

Vodafone phones can be bought practically anywhere, even Vodafone stores, funnily enough.

I thought they'd brought all their contract deals to either Phones 4 U or direct from Vodafone, but I didn't realise they backtracked earlier this month -

if you want this phone on vodafone, might i suggest getting this phone on O2, usually the handsets are sim free (well, the majority from CarPhoneWarehouse are) meaning all you need to do is slip your Vodafone sim into the phone.

What i would suggest is taking your vodafone sim with you when buying the phone and confirm it works. (my nokia 6230 was bought on O2, but worked straight away with my t mobile chip. Sometimes it is cheaper to do it this way

VOdafone products can only be bought via official VF store or Phones4U and also Ebay, as they have a web store, so i believe.

Wrong.

Argos sell them, Currys sell them, Carphone Warehouse sell them, Comet sell them, most places sell them!

i stand corrected, must of had my blind specs on when i wrote that, checked the CPw site, and can see, allbeit, a very small logo on the home page, was going off the news report stating that VF had taken all mobiles to Phones4 U

You should be cautious about using a phone that isn't available on a network.
It should be ok, but if you need any help the network won't be able to help you. You may have trouble getting the settings for things like MMS.
There have even been instances of phones not working properly on a particular network.
Nine times out of ten you'll be ok.

setttings for all networks can be obtained from the manufacturer web sites so that shouldnt really be an issue. Some networks like vodafone have information on the majority of handsets, as they know ppl do things like this (getting handsets unlocked ( well that was the case 18 months ago cos I used to work for them)

As I said 9 times out of 10 it will be ok, but you should be aware it can be a problem. I can tell you of several phones where neither manufacturer or network could help. I myself had this problem ages ago with a nokia 3510 on O2. T-mobile had issues with some unsupported phones and text messaging which made the national newspapers.

I recommend you buy the phone simless (can be done from many online stores) then put in your Vodafone sim, or a new Vodafone sim. Once running, just goto the Vodafone website and follow the procedure to download the Vodafone Live settings onto it. It will then work like any phone on the Vodafone network.

The reason your having problems finding it on Vodafone is that the phone has been discontinued, and Vodafone only sell new phones that are generally popular.
