I just cannot get my head around this Scart lead lark and do what I want to do. Advice on setting up is needed.

I have a TV/DVD Recorder/Sat Receiver that I want linking and record using the 'normal aerial' as well as Satellite.

The following are the labels listed on the various bits of equipment.

TV
AV1 (scart)
AV2 (scart)
Aerial

DVD RECORDER
EXT1 to TV Scart1
EXT2AUX Scart2
Aerial In
Aerial Out

SAT
TV SCART
VCR SCART
RF IN
RF OUT

I would setup in the following way

AERIAL > SAT RF IN
SAT RF OUT > DVR REC AERIAL IN
DVD REC AERIAL OUT > TV AERIAL

DVD Rec and TV would need to be tuned to the five terrestrial channels and to the sat receiver (sky boxes are preset to RF channel 68 I believe)

DVD REC SCART EXT 1 > SAT VCR SCART
SAT TV SCART > TV AV1 SCART

SAT & DVD REC set to RGB for best quality.

You can now rec/watch both through SCART (stereo sound) and through RF.

Other people may have other ideas, but this is how I would connect.

I think everything Treva said is correct, but i would also have a scart going from the dvd recorder to the tv, otherwise you won't be able to watch anything you record through the av channels on you tv. Although I may be wrong.

SAT VCR SCART TO DVD REC SCART 2
AERIAL INTO AERIAL IN ON DVD RECORDER
AERIAL LEAD FROM AERIAL OUT ON DVD RECORDER TO TV AERIAL

Using Treva way plus Raks55 suggestion to AV2 on TV, no luck either.

Could a box setting (SAT REC or DVDREC) be the problem?

Ignore all previous advice and do this:

Sat TV scart ---> DVDR AV2 (set to RGB)
DVDR AV1 ---> TV AV1 (the RGB scart)

Do not connect DVD recorders to the Sky VCR scart as this only carries a composite (not RGB) picture.

RF external aerial ---> DVDR RF in
RVD RF out---> TV RF in.

The same as above happens, as soon as I turn the DVDREC on the SAT picture goes.

What I am expecting is that both the AV1 and AV2 to show the SAT feed and the feed from the DVDREC.

This is correct, the SAT signal should override DVDR when it is turned on. You can change this by setting the input on the DVDR to be AV2 and this will pass through the SAT signal as if it was in stand by. Leave the DVDR in AV2 as the default.

If you wish to have the SAT signal monitored seperately add a scart from the SAT VCR scart to the TV AV2. This will be a composite picture.

Why do you need this set up? I assume it is for watching SAT when recording to DVDR from RF (terrestrial TV)?

When recording from SAT to DVDR when you are out, should use the AV2 connection to record from, this will give you a much better (RGB) picture and it will be in true widescreen rather than the stretched 14:9 you get from terrestrial.

Good luck.
Rgds,
Scorp.

Looks like that cracked it!

SAT ON and DVDREC off
AV1RGB SAT picture
AV2 SAT picture

SAT ON and DVDREC ON
AV1RGB DVDREC logo
AV2 SAT picture

Is that the best I can get picture wise with what I want or can AV2 get RGB?

Normally a SAT VCR scart can only output composite, but occasionally, it can be set to S-Video. Your TV AV2 scart may be able to accommodate S-Video but you'll need to check the manuals.

Why not forget the RF leads to the Sky Box? As you'll be watching and recording Sky via scart it serves no purpose and would simplify your spaghetti junction behind the TV to leave it out.

RF: Aerial > DVD-Rec in & DVD-Rec out > TV

Also, if your DVD-Rec won't pass through Sky while recording using its internal tuner and you generally record most things this way at the same time as watching Sky, use the following scart connections.

Sky TV > TV AV1 (RGB)
Sky VCR > DVD-Rec AV2 (Composite)
DVD-Rec AV1 > TV AV2 (S-video or Composite)

For the last scart use S-video if your TV AV2 will accept it and your DVD-Rec will output S-video from its AV1.

N.B. It appears from what you've tried that your TV will NOT accept RGB on AV2, if it does then kindly ignore my scart suggestions although the RF comments still apply.

Hi there Fiend, hope you are well: yes, this set up can be mastered with just 2 scart leads as (we) have described above in various guises. The complexity only arises when there is a requirement to use a 2nd tuner (digital or analog) to watch a channel while another is being recorded.

We users of Sky+ (record a channel on the same box while watching another) are spoiled when it comes to setting up a simple system.

Our main usage for the DVDR is archiving from Sky+ which I generally do at night.

Good to 'see' you again.
