Ipod problem
ClareB

First off, I have an ipod video 30 gig. I usually use real player, rather than itunes, to add music to it, as I have more music on my computer than would fit on my ipod.

Anyway, a couple of times recently I have had to format my ipod. In the middle of transferring songs it'll say it doesn't recognise the media format mp3. When I disconnect it and turn on my ipod, it's not showing that there is any music on there. When I reconnect it using itunes, it tells me to restore it to factory settings, as it can't read the files.

Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it without reformatting it? Luckily I haven't lost any music, as it's all stuff ripped from PC, but it's such a pain putting it all back on again. I thought I'd ask before the same thing happens again.

you do know you can choose what tracks to transfer in itunes? with the ipod connected just go to the preferences then ipod tab and if you untick a box you will then be able to choose which playlists/tracks you want transfering.

try that and see if you still get the mp3 error

Thanks for replying. It seems like it won't let me do anything until I restore my ipod to factory settings.

right ok before you restore your ipod go through the preferences and look for the tick box that says to automatically sync ipod with itune (or somethin like that) untick that then restore ipod as it asks, then try as I said see if it works
