well ive just had it confirmed after spending considerable time on the phone to homechoice trying to get a better package sorted out ( these new packages were supposed to be implemented in november ) that from february 11th homechoice will be rebranded as Tiscali, with all new packages, website and billing etc.
as well as the normal triple play there will be braodband only and broandband/phone packages available as well as the telephone line rental.
in the meantime im on free homechoice again until this date and if theres further delays then its further free homechoice for me until its sorted, but from what i have been told 11th feb 2007 is pretty much set in stone now...
about time too, maybe for those thinking of moving should hold on that little bit longer we may at last see the improvments alot of us have been asking for

Well, that's funny! When I called last Friday I was told there would be no rebrand...

You have a specific date though and this ties in with the experience of one guy who has only received 2 months free on the 4 month thread so thanks for the info.

I wonder what will happen to the rest of our 4 months free. Technically I suppose HC will cease to exist and therefore it need not be honoured by Tiscali.

I heard that Tiscali were selling their UK company to improve their service in Italy so they may not even get to rebrand to Tiscali, if it does it may only be for a short while

I emailed HC about the new box a few days ago, asking if it will have a PVR function. Interesting response.....

"the Information you require has not yet been communicated to HomeChoice"

Suggests that it really is Tiscali in the driving seat now.

Nah, that was just the independant, mis-informed as usual:
Italian internet company, Tiscali has firmly denied it has put its UK division up for sale following reports that the company is quietly sounding out potential buyers. "Tiscali UK is not for sale, and the story has no foundation at all. We are focused on pursuing the long-term strategy to build the UK and Italian sides of the business that we laid out in October, and a sale is not part of that plan," said a Tiscali spokeswoman.

Nothing of interest then.
They used to have a broadband only service, so its not 'new', as such.

I agree there is no new news as such and as HC said themselves "this information is yet to be communicated to HomeChocie" about the new box.

There are implications here though:

New pricing structure - hmmmm - will this result in a rise to support the national roll out?

Could the VoD services follow more the trend of late with Take Two (and that of NTL) ie pay per view episodes rather than included in your sub. That would be the killer for me!

What about those of us on 4 months free? If HC cease to exist, technically Tiscali need not honour this.

I expect the price will come down, Tiscali are known for low prices. Charging for VOD isn't going to happen for the BBC channels and surveys suggest it will kill the technology. What happens with other programmes depends on the IP owners, not HC or the channels.

As for you free HC, neither Tiscali or HC have to honour it and why should anyone, besides you, give a sh*t?
