Difference between compact camera and Digital SLR

What are the main differences apart from the ability to zoom in more on a Digital SLR camera... Will it give the same photograph quality as a compact camera if it is the same amount of mega pixels?...

The main difference is having interchangeable lenses and more flexibility/manual control. A DSLR won't automatically give 'more zoom', unless you buy a lens with a longer focal length (which will be bloomin' expensive!).

On comparing the quality, a DSLR has a much larger sensor than that of a compact camera (1/1.8" versus 1"-ish!) and you will be using a dedicated quality lens, so yes, you will be getting a better result.

I have a 6MP 'bridge' camera, my brother has a 6MP DSLR, and the quality of his photos is way better.
