Sony RDRGX300 DVD recorder - How noisy!!!!

I have a Sony RDR-GX300 DVD recorder in my bedroom, I know that some DVD recorders make a "humming" sound but as I am profoundly deaf it makes no difference to me, my mummy is coming to stay and will be using my bedroom should I have anything to worry about ie is it too noisy or should I deconnect and reconnect when she leaves?

Well if she's not going to be using it then it would be sensible to turn it off anyway.
