Oh I'm enjoying myself. 12 minutes in and already I'm hooked. Loved the guy on helium with the slashed pants/trousers. Ryan Seacrest is better than I had imagined, and as for our Roving Reporter, Kristen Holt, I need sunglasses to protect me against the glare of those teeth. And still Keith-like a Virgin to come

Yeah Islandman, we got to see long drawn out Unchained Melody gal. and she's,as you say. Hilariously bad. I thought we'd lost her
What's with SC? Has he been taking Mr Nice Guy pills? He's nothing like as ascerbic as he was over here.He seems to be playing up the OMG I'm SO Bored look
Edgar "Enrique" looked certifiable, but perhaps they allow this in the States. Come on Keith. I wanna hear you!
NOOOO!!! We're onto Hollywood and no Keith. Has he taken out a lawsuit so we cant see him?

the show has had me laughing for a good 2 hours so thumbs up to it.

the guy with the slit trousers - great tv, his reaction was great.

the kelly osborne girl - only saw a clip of her, but she was crying her eyes out and it was so funny.

Edgar - how could he possibly think he could sing? sounded like a skreach to me!

The girl with the longest song - i was practically crying when they showing clips of trees etc changing over time as she sang. they were just taking the mick so bad it was funny.

werent very many good guys - most of the good ones were girls. The girl Julia and Frenchie seemed pretty good - think they will prob be in final 10.

im videoing the rest of the show now as im too tired, but should be a good laugh.

What I enjoyed even more than untalented nutters like Edgar was Simon Cowell. At times he couldn't keep the sneering expression off his face, especially at vomit inducing "sentimental" moments...you know the kind...where Paula Abdul had tears in her eyes

Thank Christ for Simon Cowell and I only wish he had told the rude loser from New Jersey who expressed relief to come from a country where people brushed their teeth twice a day that he was relieved to come from a country which has more than 50% of the population visit a dentist and one where the people haven't had irony bypasses

Apologies to any Americans here...those insults are specifically to that loser from NJ

yeh it's better than popstars, but not pop idol. the fact that the show is taking place 3000 miles away kinda makes it feel kinda weird. at least in pop idol you felt something united/similar to the peeps who were doing the auditions (am now at risk of sounding cheesy) cos u were from the same country. i dunno, there's something about it being done on home turf, thats all!

I can't believe they didn't show you guys Keith!!

I still don't know how they fit 4 and a half hours of auditions episodes into just 2. The buzz here is going for Frenchie too...as well as Julia nad Kimberly. As for the guys, JD Adams is getting a lot of attention as well as the guy who would say "hercules, hercules!"

My picks are Frenchie, Julia, and the pink haired girl..i think her name is Vanessa.

Last season Simon's worst remarks came during the upcoming audition episodes where they vote for who goes into the top ten. There were several fights between the judges during them..especially between Simon and Randy. But I agree, he wasn't as harsh as the advertisements said he would be this year.

It was indeed Islandman. But that's a small nugget when compared to not getting to see Keith. He's not even on the official site clips
Are they saving him up for a finale section of horrendous auditions? Because I'm well annoyed.

I didnt even realise she was supposed to be singing that song untill about half way through her audition.
So far, imo, there hasnt been anyone outstanding at all.
seemed to be an endless succession of blokes over'riffing' in the best Lemar fashion, and an endless succession of female Mariah Cary sound alike attempts.
Only 2 of them sounded like they had something. the 'rock' guy, and the girl who was ignored by her group and had to practise on her own. imo

I was the same Metafis, had no idea she was singing unchained meloday until halfway through. Thought the cutaways of time passing were brilliant.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and can't wait for next week's show!!

I hope Frenchie does well, her voice is fantastic!!

Last nights show was great. You gotta love Simon Cowell. The best line has to be when he said Christina Aguilera looked like a slut, I nearly pissed myself.
Having seen American Idol highlights on RI:SE last year I thought we might not get the so-bad-there-funny contestants like we do in the UK, but I was so wrong. There were some great ones. Fave has to be the guy in Miami in Miami though, the on that did Enrique's 'Escape', that was hysterical, especially the bit when he said he had a dream, BEFORE he was born. Love it! Can't wait for next week.

just watched the rest of it now.
for the guys im rooting for: Ruben, the US Marine and the rock bloke.
for the girls: frenchie and julia.

i think its going to be quite a mix in the final 10 - from the view of the 'popstar look'. Not many of them really have the popstar look except for Julia and maybe a few others. however im not discriminating against that cos i would love frenchie to go far. i think us British are more superficial than the americans - the americans dont seem to count image as importantly as we do (and im not saying thats a bad thing cos i think its good - gives people hope). its definately going to be intersting tho - to see who the public picks. Although i feel sorry for some cos only a few of the final 32 have been really focussed on in the series - some of the finalists havent had any cameras on them and this could prove to be a huge disadvantage as we cant see their personalities.

I agree...i think Simon and co. showed more of the contestants they would prefer to have in the top ten....so that we would be more inclined to vote for them....except last season our winner wasn't showcased in the audition rounds hardly at all...but most of the other ones showcased made the top ten. Then again..the ones showcased had some sort of story that made their audition process interesting...so they're probably showcased for that reason too.

Yep...agree. Just caught up with watching the video yesterday and I was laughing for a good part of the 2 hours. Is the Julia v Kimberley rivalry for real or is this another one that the programme makers are drawing out?

Yep, good on ITV 2, but I wish they'd keep to their schedules - the second part finished 20 minutes later than it should have done - if I wasn't watching it live then TiVo would have lost the last 20 minutes, and I wouldn't have been happy!

From the Houston Chronicle:

Luck could play a role in how well she does tonight with viewers. Or maybe a knockout punch. One of her competitors tonight is Julia DeMato of Brookfield, Conn.

Caldwell and DeMato got into it last week after failing to hook up to practice a group routine. Both girls exhibited some attitude before settling their differences just before the quarterfinal audition.

"We had a little tiff for about two or three minutes," said Caldwell, downplaying what appeared on TV to be a major to-do. "It was television, you know. They had to dramatize it for you. But me and Julia are on great terms."
Typical.
