My Toppy Got Wet
Rusty Nail
31-12-2006
Hi there all.

Can anyone help me please?

My Toppy started to go wrong about a week ago when everything started to go green on the screen. This didn't improve and now I have no picture at all.

On taking a look inside, it is apparent that a liquid has dripped onto the main board right on top of the chip by the scart sockets. I can only assume that I will need another main board as everything else is working fine, PSU, HDD, display etc (well it was all OK before the picture went).

Can anyone please help me in locating a new board and if possible to let me know how much the board will cost.

I hope that someone can help me

Thanks

If I were you, I'd go and visit www.toppy.org.uk. You're far more likely to get a response from the guys there, in particular, Nigel will be able to advise on where to get repairs done...

The main UK distributor/importer is Turbosat www.turbosat.com

Thank you both.

I have contacted turbosat with my problem and I have also sent an enquiry to topfield direct. All I can do now is wait and see if anything can be done.

I shall keep all updated

If you contacted Topfield.co.uk, then that is Turbosat, essentially. Topfield's main operation is in Korea.

A new board has been ordered from turbosat @ £75.00 inc VAT - bargain. It is definately cheaper than a new Toppy. I might also stick in a 320GB Drive while I am at it, but before I do does anybody know if there are any problems in doing so?

There shouldn't be any problems with the hard drive. If possible, get a 5,400rpm one to keep the heat down. I think there's a big thread over on Toppy.org.uk about upgrading the hard drive.
