Techincal setup question

Hi there,

I need some guidance as to how to set this lot up so as all audio plays through the surround sound.

Sharp 32" LCD TV (2 Scarts)
Phillips DVD / 5.1 Surround Sound System (1 Scart)
Daewoo HDD Recorder (PVR) (2 Scarts)
Sky box (2 Scarts)

At the moment I am thinking to try the following.

Sky box scart 1 into PVR scart 1.
PVR Scart 2 Into DVD / Surround Sound.
DVD / surround sound component out (RGB) into TV (RGB) in (so as it works in progressive scan mode).
Sky Scart 2 into TV scart 2.

Therefore all audio from sky and PVR will go into DVD player and as such through the surround sound, DVD video will go into TV via RGB and as such work in progressive scan mode and sky will also feed directly to TV.

This is the best I can come up with but will need to buy some leads to do it so I was wondering if anybody out there could let me know if they think this would work or suggest any other ways of setting up the equipment

Thanks

Liam

Hi Liam, if tour TV has component inputs and can connect to the DVD then use them in a set up like this:

DVD component ---> TV component
Sky TV scart (bottom one) ---> PVR VCR scart (set Sky to RGB)
PVR TV scart (set to RGB) ---> TV AV1 (the RGB scart)
This will allow you to watch Sky while the PVR is recording.

For sound, the DVD will automatically route its sound through the multi speakers, for all other sound (which will be ProLogic II as you dont have any other digital sources like Sky+) just connect an audio red/white left/right phono cable to the AUX input on the DVD surround box. Then choose AUX on here when watching anything on the TV other than DVDs.

Cheers for the reply

just to confirm the above, if i connect one end of the audio leads to the dvd surround aux in then does the other go directly to the sky box audio out or to the pvr audio out?

None of these.

Most TVs have an audio out phono socket on the back - this is where you should connect the other end. This way, whatever is on the screen will be passed through the AUX socket and get processed in Dolby PLII (except, of course, when you are playing a DVD which will take care of itself and give you full DD 5.1 or DTS depending on the soundtrack.

If you had a Sky+ box this set up would be slightly different in that these + boxes can process full DD 5.1 like a DVD and would need a special audio cable connecting into your DVD/amp.

Good luck,
Rgds,
