No publicity,no TV appearances,no airplay,no Simon Cowell yet still have highest new entry in top 40 at No.3!!!

Thats the sign of a proper band.Who else could manage that nowadays? I doubt anyone in U.K! \m/ \m/

Maiden have one of the most loyal fan bases going. Would have been even better if it had emulated 'Bring Your Daughter...' and made No 1. Superb marketing again.

Their new album is superb and this is one of my favourite tracks off it.
Delighted to hear it's done so well!

i bet radio one wont play it. a couple of years ago marillion used the net to get big sales for their single your gone.it was 2cnd highest entry that week i think in at no.6 but radio one wouldnt play it and top of the pops gave the video about 3 seconds.typical,if it aint dance, rap crap or something trendy it gets ignored even if its miles better than the rest of the trash in the charts.

Bring your daughter got to number one because they told everyone at their concerts to buy it! The fact that people did shows how loyal their fans are. Did the new single release coincide with a tour?

Probably more due to the fact they released something like seven different formats of that particular single!!! Which is one of the reasons why the rules on the number of formats you can have per release was changed.

The other factor is releasing the single after christmas when sales are low, which also helped Bring Your Daughter... get to number one.

However the chart success of 'Maiden puts many other bands to shame (14 top 10's iirc?).

Iron Maiden > Any and every other band in the charts today

Fact. Way better than all of this dance/rap/R&B garbage that Radio 1 shove down our throats.

Think my faves are still Number of the Beast and Can I Play with Madness, though there are many great tracks to choose from!

(Incidentally, yikes! My second post in this thread, exactly 13 months after my first!)

I agree too! This thread has made my day - so good to see some appreciation of REAL music. I have a really boring story if anyone can be arsed to read it.....I saw Maiden on the Brave New World tour - OMG, almost 8 years ago now....anyway my son went with me, we had standing tickets, I wanted to get down the front, he didn't so I said "see you later then!" (Don't worry, he was 18 at the time!) On meeting up at the end of the show, he told me he'd got talking to a couple, who asked if he was there on his own. He replied "No, I'm with me mum" to which they asked where I was, and he said "Oh, she's down the front moshing!" I dine out on that story to this day!!

OK, you can wake up now.....

Love the Iron's. A guy I used to work with introduced me to them way back in 1982. Since then I've bought all the albums, and just love them. Wasn't too keen on the stuff without Bruce at the helm. But fave tracks have to be Hallowed Be Thy Name & Wasted Years.

Im glad this thread is here!
Maiden are probably my favourite band, just foooking amazingly brilliant shows and incredible songs. Hoping to see them this year too, saw them at Download last year and they owned it.
Looking to get the Live after Death DVD this week, cuz it also has the second part of the history of maiden which should be great too.

Have to say though, my fav song is probably The Clairvoyant, followed my Fear of the Dark. Amazing stuff!

Considering what they've achieved world-wide, it's nothing short of a disgrace how they're treated, or should that be ignored, by their own country's media!

Still, I'll be there at Twickenham in July, enjoying it just as much as the first time I saw them, way back on the "Iron Maiden UK Tour" in 1980!!

What on earth are you talking about? They have done a full UK tour in support of every studio album they have released since Bruce rejoined the band. They played the usual arenas for A Matter Of Life And Death just before Christmas 2006. They are only doing the one-offs (or the festivals) when promoting the "Best of..." stuff. They played Reading (and Leeds) for the first part of the History, they played Download last year for the second part, and they are playing Twickenham this year for the third part.

But when the next studio album comes out they will return to doing a full UK tour once more. You can't expect them to play the smaller concert halls like they did during the early eighties - the Hammersmith Apollos and De Montfort Halls and St George's Halls of this world, as they aren't big enough to hold the number of people who want to see Maiden. That's why they play the NEC, Sheffield Arena, Wembley Arena, SECC etc. But they will play them, next time they do a full UK tour. Maybe they don't want to do a full tour when they have no new material to promote.
