Maiden are probably my favourite band, just foooking amazingly brilliant shows and incredible songs. Hoping to see them this year too, saw them at Download last year and they owned it.

Have to say though, my fav song is probably The Clairvoyant, followed my Fear of the Dark. Amazing stuff! ”

They were awesome at Download. It was worth getting there early to get near the front. Even though it meant sitting through Evanescence .

The 'old school' bands: Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Machine Head etc outshone most of the newer bands (apart from Killswitch & Mastodon).

Fear of the Dark was brilliant with everyone singing along to the intro.

My favourites are: Children of the Damned & The Evil That Men Do.

Will be going to Twickenham too, to see their pyramid, as promised.

Really hope they come to Northern Ireland. They would easily sell-out Odyssey two or three nights I'd say.

Maiden = The Saviours of Rock Music. No other band comes close. Have the work ethic, the fanbase, the powerful, meaninfful lyrics, the killer guitars, the great artwork --- just pure class, all the way!
Thank God Bruce is back with them! Bruce and Maiden are made to go together --- accept no substitutes!
ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best bands ever. Of any genre. Consistently good, even when bad! I'm not a great fan of the first couple of albums, but from Number of the Beast through to the new one, I've loved at least 2 songs per album and generally really liked the rest. Even Virtual XI, which was panned, had great moments like Don't Look Through The Eyes Of A Stranger. And Name of the Cross - awesome.

Whenever I do some CD burning for the car, Alexander The Great usually makes it, as does Fear of the Dark (Live) and Afraid To Shoot Strangers (Live). Oh, and Wasted Love. I'll stop now, or I'll be naming songs till my fingers bleed.

Roll on Twickers!

It's a shame that the charts are dominated by pop, rap, R&B and dance these days. Real bands with talent like Iron Maiden don't get a chance in the spotlight, and it's a crying shame that they don't.

Think we should all buy 'Run To The Hills' in an effort to get it to No. 1, whose with me lads?!

That be pretty good! Shall we start downloading and get some credible tunes in the chart again?

People have done it with other bands before, so I think with the support of the massive Maiden fanbase we could put 'Run To The Hills' back where it rightfully belongs.

Everytime Maiden release a single it gets into top 5 with no airplay! Best time when they beat Cliff Richard to Number 1 with Bring Your dauughter to the slaughter!

I was gonna say that - they go top 10 already anyway! as for pushing a song to number 1, please not 'Run To The Hills', I'm sick of that song.

No way! That was the definitive Iron Maiden. They were never the same once the bloke from Samson took over!

Two great bands ruined in one fell swoop!

I always liked DiAnno better as Maiden's singer, and i lost interest after Powerslave. Unfortunately never saw them with Paul, was a few years too young, he'd already left/been sacked by the time i started going to gigs.

Powerslave was Bruce's third album though?

The albums with Paul never reached the giddy heights of Bruce's early albums IMO, although they did have a few decent tracks like 'Running Free'.

I don't really like the Paul albums, but that may be a production thing. I much prefer the Live After Death versions of the early songs - especially Phantom.

I rather like Iron Maiden. But to be honest the first two albums are rubbish compared the likes of Number of The Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave.

Admittedly you get Phantom of The Opera and Running Free which are two great Maiden anthems from DiAnno at the helm. But after he was sacked for being a drunk and smackhead Maiden simply hit the stratosphere and became huge.

Bruce is a real performer there aren't many frontmen who put on as good a show as he does.

I'm too young to have been around when DiAnno was in the band but listening to their early stuff there's no comparision, for me.

BBC Four showed a good bit of one of their Rock In Rio concerts when they were doing the 'Seven Ages Of Rock' program. Even in their 50s they're better than people half their age.

And of course, Eddie is awesome!

I have been a fan of the band sinse 1990. I was 12 back then. My first album from the band was Number Of The Beast. But my first ever item of Maiden's I bought was the 7inch single of Holy Smoke. My love for the band grew and grew. Untill recently. The past two albums from Maiden: Dance of Death and also A Matter of Life and Death. They IMO are by far the weakest entries into the Maiden arsenal. They just do not have any life to them I think. The songs, all of them, on Matter of Life and Death sound flat. There is no decent riffs in the music. At this moment in time in my eyes the band has only one way to go now... UP.

There is no longer the excellent music writing skills of Powerslave or Somewhere in Time in any of Maiden's newer projects. All we get now in terms of real Metal is burnt out 50 somthings trying to cling onto what they once had in terms of sheer dominance in the Metal scene during the 1980's.

That was good news the position they got in the charts. It's always good to see them beat the mainstream pish that is getting thrown at us day and night. But they are doing it wrong if the critics are praising their new work more than the earlier work. It seems they would do this type of thing rather than continue the legacy they built during the 80's. After all it was that time that made them what they are just now, not what they are doing just now.

They are a good metal band.

As for their number one, it was actually the lowest selling number one single between around 1960 and 2002. Prior to 1960 there was some lower-selling ones as single-sales were not that high. Post-2002 and there was a singles-sales slump and some subsequent number ones also sold less than the Iron Maiden one did, in particular I think Busted.

There was a lot of discussion about this when they came out on the Maiden forum. Personally, I put it down to the production. It sounds like Bruce is singing from the back of the studio and you're hard pressed to hear the three guitars.

Live, the new songs hold up well which is the best measure. I just wish their new studio albums sounded like Powerslave and Somewhere In Time did.

Having first seen Iron Maiden in 1980, with Paul DiAnno, and followed them ever since, I'd disagree with your view on the songwriting for the last two albums. I'd say that A Matter of Life and Death is one of the best albums, in terms of the songs, Maiden have written for a long time, the problem with the album, as others have said, is with the production which is flat and dull.

As for being burnt out because they're in their 50s, again I'd disagree! I've seen many, many, bands less than half the age of Maiden, and the one thing they consistantly fail to do is live up to their hype and, more often than not, are really dull and boring to watch live. It seems to me that these days you form a band, get a record contract with huge amount of publicity and hype, ususally with the label of "the next big thing" attached somewhere, then go straight on to an arena tour. Steve Harris formed Maiden @ 1973 -75 so when they finally got a record contract in 1979 they'd been gigging for at least 5 yeards and had learnt how to play live. See Maiden live now and what comes across is usually an amazing show performed faultlessly by a band who know exactly what's required to deliver a performance people will long remember. It's no accident that other"old" bands, such as AC/DC and The Rolling Stones, are also rated amongst the best live bands, because they've had to work hard to get where they are and they work just as hard to stay there.

Fear of the Dark wasn't well received and now the title track is a live certainty. The Blaze-era stuff got panned but, again, songs like Afraid To Shoot Strangers do the job on stage and are fan faves.

I wasn't a really big fan of AMOLAD, mainly due to the production, but when they played it all live, it made me go back and listen again and there's a couple of gems on there that will be a part of their live show for years to come. In fact, I don't think there's an album that doesn't have at least 2 stand out live tracks on.
