Red Eyes in Cameras

How come every blooming camera I buy shows red eyes, even though the reduction is on.

I don't quibble with cost when it comes to buying cameras and spent about two hundred and fifity quid last year on a Kodak Z730. I have some lovely photos of my kids opening their Xmas pressies but they look like the devil with the red eyes!

I can't be bothered to spend time jiggling messing around with the photos to get the red eyes off. Does anyone out there have a good camera which takes photos as they should be and not give that red eye effect? If so what make and how much is it?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm guessing you'll struggle as the red eye is caused by the flash. As it's a digital camera, surely it would be worth using software to remove the red eye from your favourite photos?

You can download free software from GIMP here (don't be put off by the name) http://www.gimp.org/

And there's instructions on red eye removal here http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/RedEye

I always used to have that problem with even an expensive camera and when my boy had red eyes in the pics put it down to his father being 'Satan'! LOL LOL LOL!

BUT.. now all my photo's are fine with lo and behold just an old Kodak EasyShare DX6340 (apparently it has colour science in it.. yeah go figure!!) You can pick em' up for about 40 odd quid now!

On my camera (sadly now deceased - RIP Kodak camera!), I had a red eye function. It flashed about 4 times before taking the picture. The problem was that the flash confused people and the photos never came out that nice - closed eyes, people thinking the 1st flash was the photo over so walking away etc...

Just make sure you tell people to wait

I used to have that camera and it broke! It was good at the time I recall and I sold it on Ebay (although I was honest in the listing that it was broke! ) I then got this current one and it's driving me nuts.

Actually, I'm going to go Argos, buy any camera, bring it home, try it for 13 days and if I don't like it I'll return it by the 14th day!. I'll keep doing that til I get a camera I like and does what I want it to!

Well they've closed that 'loophole' since digital cameras are excluded from their 16 day money back guarantee.
