Charging Zen Microphoto
Toxteth O'Grady

Having problems charging up my Creative Zen Microphoto.

I have the USB cable plugged permanately into the back of my PC and most of the time it charges fine from there, but sometimes I'll plug it in and it just won't charge.

Other computers are hit and miss - my parents won't charge it, neither will the one at work, my sisters laptop will though. A friends computer did once, but last time i visited it wouldn't.

Very frustrating especially when i go away and it needs charging. I've tried front and rear USBs (apparently the rear USBs are often better) and no matter where i plug it in the charging indicator flashes. It's only about 9 months old and I'm sure it used to charge from anywhere

Any ideas or tips anyone? Is my battery knackered?

Does the PC show it as a portable drive? If not it may be having problems recognising the Zen. Have you tried the reset button? And loaded the latest firmware, sometimes just doing either of those could solve your problem.

On a forum I use for my Zen M there was a thread about charging probelms. try this cleanup from recovery mode (obviously backup all your songs first)
format player reload firmware (latest version). if all of that fails contact Creative Customer Support. Good Luck

I don't want to install the latest firmware as it disables the radio recording.

Some of the PCs have recognised it as a drive - my sisters that did charge it didn't, My friends did recognise it but didn't charge! There's no consistancy or logic

check the Firmware as they (Creative) have back-tracked over the FM recording. The lastest version for my Zen M (1.61) allows recording but the previous 1.50 didn't. If you can't get it to charge or be recognised by the PC contact creative, they may have a fix.

Thanks for that, will check. If that's the case I might try and get the US firmware too as that allows the volume to go louder apparently
