A funeral on New Years Day?
I go the impression from tonights EE that Pauline's funeral was being held on NYE? I didn't think you could have a funeral on a bank holiday because the cemetries and cremotoriums close? When my Uncle died we had to wait over a week for his funeral because he died a few days before Easter and it caused a backlog.

It's Eastenders. They (along with other soaps) also have Christmas weddings. Now seriously why would you have your wedding on Christmas day?

Its a soap and soaps do this.
Who really cares anyway? The quality of these episodes has outshined the rest of the soaps and got Easties off to a great start in 2007. Last edited by Omebull : 02-01-2007 at 20:43. |

I saw people round here having driving lessons on Christmas Day - and the shop round the corner was open
give it a few years and you'll be able to do everything, just like Sundays! |

a funeral on new years day, what a laugh that would be seeing the body the night before in the chapel or having Pauline round for New years party in the living room ...

It now appears that she never even had a post mortem
A woman believed to be in good health collapses in the street and two doctors sign a death certificate allowing her to be cremated. What could they have put down as the cause of death

They don't care, do they? I'm surprised half of Albert Square aren't celebrating their weddings, or contemplating topping themselves remembering how they found out about their other halves' death/affair/desire for a divorce on Christmas Day. My Christmases are always so quiet - just how I like them. But they have been good EE episodes so far this year in spite of the cheesiness.
P.S. Even the Archers has a triplet birth on Christmas Day - even if it was calves, not people ![]() (evidently triplet births are quite rare amongst cattle) Last edited by pammi_i : 02-01-2007 at 21:58. |

Ive never seen a funeral on Xmas day either, I would imagine thats even less likely than a funeral on New Years Day.

Also you think that sometime that day Sonia would have given a thought to poor forgotten Jamie. |

I'm just wondering why none of them were hungover if it was on New Years Day. The vic was looking pretty clean if it was to. Unless they cancelled new years celebrations? lol

I think it's totally bizarre. I'm from Ireland and over here you can't be buried on Christmas day or on a Sunday (if you live in Dublin but you can in other parts of the country). I'm not sure about NY day but I find it odd that anyone would want to do that.
On an unrelated matter in Ireland our pubs close for the day completely. They won't serve alcohol after 11.30pm on Christmas eve (even if it's a Saturday when licence is until 12.30am). They also close on Good Friday. How Catholic we are! Anyway, back to the matter at hand, I think it's a great storyline but there are a few holes in it that the researchers should have filled. |

Plot holes
Walford Council offices would have been shut on 25 & 26th so Martin would not have been able to register the death until Wednesday. With out registering he would not have got the green form allowing the body to be cremated

Undertakers do not "run early". They time the route with precision so that you don't stand about waiting for your turn.

Bodies are not put straight into the furnace after the service, so there was no need for the police to disrupt things.

Why did Gus go up to the policemen and ask them to leave. He didn't know who they were and they weren't disturbing anyone. You would just ignore them as they might be people who knew Pauline.

Why did Martin say "They are not cutting my mum up" after the funeral when she must have already had an autopsy for them to know why she died.
She died on Christmas Day, and obvsiousley the following day was Boxing Day. So it would have taken a good few days for everything to get moving. |

I thought it was ridiculous how soon after her death the funeral was too - a week to the day later. My grandad died on Xmas Eve two years ago and his funeral wasn't until nearly three weeks later as it's so hard to get things moving at this time of year.

A girl I work with was at one on monday. You'd wonder why any family would agree to have one on Christmas Day though. It's true that funerals usually take place in Ireland on the third day,but that's just a custom, not a hard and fast rule. |

Added drama maybe. Especially as it was a young tragic death.

Then he had to have a post mortem cos he'd been fine before the death. It took us until the 4th to bury him cos of it all. |
