What are the fundamental differences between Movie Mode and User Mode
I have a Pioneer PDP-436XDE and I am experimenting with calibrating my display using a Denon DVD1730 via HDMI.
I have noticed that when I use Movie Mode as the base setting, colours seem a bit less fierce than if I set it to User. Also using Miami Vice as an example, the shots on the rooftop when Crockett is called by the informant shows a lot of digital grain (which according to reviews is the way it should look) when set to Movie, however when set to User this grain is not apparent and the picture seems a fair bit darker. I should point out that I have set all values the same so : Contrast : 30 Brightness : +1 ( Except User where it is +2 ) Colour : -8 Tint : +5 towards Red Sharpness : -6 Pure Cinema : Off ( ADV for R1 Titles ) Colour Temp : Mid-Low CTI : On DNR : Mid MPEG : Mid Black Level : Off All other options set to off. This results in a quite differing picture between the two, can anyone out there advise me why this is the case ? what exactly does the Movie setting do to the picture and how accurate is it for movie playback ? Also if anyone has any recommended settings for the screen and player, that would be very helpful. If anyone knows of information located on AVForums, please could you copy / paste it here for me ? I know this is asking alot but I don't yet have internet access at home and my works have blocked access to most site like AVForums. Best regards Andy Last edited by Andy3105 : 03-01-2007 at 10:46. |

if you buy star wars you will get a calibrating screen for adjusting all your settings
however its personal preference for watching the screen. some like bright screens and some dont most tvs have like 2 or 3 personal settings for personal/movie settings. the movie setting is darker as the tv companies set it this way so you can see the picture the way the director wanted you to see it when you go to normal tv after watching a dvd you should select personal back on your tv but i find its annoying. however if you are looking to get the best picture you will have to do it. good luck |
