Someone using my old SIM card?
Monkeyseat

Hello, bit of an odd story.

I've had 3 SIM cards I have used, all Pay As You Go. The 2nd SIM card I got was a replacement as the first one wasn't working with some features like WAP. When I upgraded to the 3rd one, I don't know where the 2nd one went but I presume I have it somewhere.

A few weeks ago someone tried to ring my 2nd SIM card, but were unaware that I had changed to my 3rd a few years ago as they hadn't updated the number on their phone. There was no answer, but then they have had texts back off the number saying "hu's dis?" and "can't txt now workin'". How? They also had a call back, but the person who was trying to contact me rang it back and the person with my old number had turned their phone off stright away.

I don't know where the SIM card is but I don't think I've lost it or gave it away. Should be at home somewhere. I gave the 2nd phone to a friend which they still have but I'm sure it wasn't with the SIM card. I've found one SIM card at home but when I put it in my phone I don't get a signal so I can't check the number (might be the first card).

This 2nd card is Orange, but my question is, if you don't use the Pay As You Go card for about 3 or 4 years will they give the number to someone else? I think one friend who was in my phone book on the 2nd SIM card has had a text off my old number without even trying ringing it, that's why I thought someone had my SIM card... I texted my old number to check where they got it and they said "This is my numba got it from orange n i dno wa ur on bout". The number this person is texting from is the same as my old number.

Sorry if that's a bit confusing. The bottom line is, someone has the same number as my 2nd SIM card.

Any ideas?
Cheers.

If you think about it, recycling numbers makes sense, otherwise we'll all be going through the trauma of getting new numbers, like the last time they ran out of numbers.

They cut your number off after 180 days. It's then recycled 9 months later.

Thanks for the help. Glad I got the answer here, Orange support was appalling.

I have one very, very old Orange SIM card at home but when I put it in my phone after not using it for at least 4 years, I get no signal, is this why because of the number recycling? It does make sense. I think no one else is using it though, as when I rang the number it just went straight to answer machine as if it was turned off (wasn't in use in a phone). Can you just confirm that?

I'm just trying to figure how they manage to text an old contact lol, I'm sure that must be a mistake....? My friend was saying yeseterday though they got 2 texts off my old number (they had the old and new number in their phone for some reason but just used the new) and they said they haven't rang it for ages. How?

Ha, conincidence that the Simpsons episode about phone numbers is on now...

Cheers guys.

That's what I thought but apparently they didn't. I doubt they actually have my SIM card, but I was just thinking how it could've happened. Nevermind, thanks.
