Sony RDR-HXD860 - a couple of questions

Have had a new RDR-HXD860 for just over a week now and find it a real pleasure to use. I have it connected to an NTL box by SCART and to the TV using a HDMI cable. It is on software V1.01.08CE. I have a couple of questions that I can't solve that I'd appreciate any help with:

1. When in standby (ie switched off) the NTL signal won't show on the TV via the HDMI channel - does the Sony have to be switched on in order to activate the HDMI cable?

2. If I use EPG to set a timed recording I can't edit the timer to set it to record Line 3 (ie NTL), it only allows the repeat rec./mode/media line to be edited - the manual implies you can alter the actual timings. If I set a recording manually it allows full editing rights. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal for EPG timings?

Regarding comments about fan noise, I don't have a problem with the noise - it's not very loud at all, but you can hear hard disk activity noises (sort of clicks) if you're too close to the recorder when fast forwarding.

Cheers

I wouldn't expect it to work any other way.

Again, I wouldn't expect it to work any other way - the EPG is there specifically to set everything you need to do the recording, including the channel it needs.
