I haven't read it and don't intend to read any of Carole Malone's 3rd rate (And I feel I am being too kind there) *cough*journialistic*cough* rubbish. I have never liked her or even enjoyed any reading of her 3rd rate column, she bores me  and she did nothing to make me change my views on her whilst she was in the BB house.

Carole lacks humour and insight and if what I am reading is right in posts about the latest column of hers, then she is sounding very bitter. I reckon she was hoping to get more from her stint of being in the CBB5 house and it hasn't materialised, unlike her column, mores the pity I don't think Dirk will be losing any sleep over Carole's opinion of him

I've just read it

I'm not surprised that she is defending Cleo, I always thought Carole had a fancy for Dirk too. And defending Jo? That woman needs a reality check.

That's true, and I'd hazard a guess that this is part of what bother's Carole....the fact thet Dirk could care less what she thinks of him.

Before it's all over a little retrospective on me, Dirk and CBB.

I was very nervous when Dirk went into the house. I've been an A-Team fan for years, and Face was a teenage crush that I never got over. So I was worried that Dirk would be a hero with feet of clay and that I'd dislike him when I got to see the real person.

If he'd shown up and started being a complete git I might have tried to defend him out of fan loyalty at first, but in the end I'd have stopped watching, just out of emotional self defence.

But thank god that didn't happen!

I didn't expect him to be perfect of course, no human is perfect. I already knew he had some views I don't agree with, but of course he's entitled to his views same as me.

So it's been both a relief and a delight to find out that actually he's a good guy. As expected, he's not perfect, he's opinionated and he can be grouchy. But on the other hand his opinions are not extremist, his grouchiness was entirely in reaction to provocation, he never yelled at anyone despite that provocation.

He's witty and quite happy to make a twit of himself for a laugh. He's been on the right side throughout the whole Goody debacle and afterwards. He's not afraid to say what he thinks and won't play the "but we all love each other really" game.

I've been happy to see people who were pretty much indifferent to or unaware of him before CBB, so had no vested interest in supporting him, saying he's their favourite on the show.

So I'm happy now. Dirk's a basically good guy, with an interesting personality and my teenage crush hasn't been tarnished!

Whatever position he finishes in tonight he's a winner to me. He's the only reason I watched CBB, and frankly at times it's been an ordeal watching it. I'm just very happy he's proved worthy of all our loyalty.

Yes that's true. Plus she was always close to Cleo, who later harrassed Dirk.

From the start I always felt that Carole was herself a malign influence on the house. I remember, for example, the way that she and Cleo would get up and leave every time Leo Sayer came and joined them. And she set the scene for the later bullying of Shilpa by questioning quite stridently why Shilpa had not been censured by Big Brother for discussing nominations. In doing this she put the idea into weaker minds that Shilpa had been singled out for special treatment.

So I'm not surprised to see Carole siding with bullies.

Lovely post, junkfoodmonkey!

The one thing I would add is that wherever Dirk finishes tonight, his supporters on this board, and particuarly on this thread, have been a credit to him, and should all give themseves a pat on the back for their efforts!

Spot on! She set the example for Jade and Co to follow...

I have to concur with that Dirk fans are a credit to him

That post of yours deserves a thread of it's own, Junkfoodmonkey. With maybe 'An apprecitation of Dirk Benedict's time in the CBB house' somewhere in the title so it doesn't get jumped on by non appreciaters of Dirk.

Then we can all add to it our own admiration of the man, although I reckon you pretty much spoke for many of us there And hopefully we can get the thread sent to him to read

Thanks, Muttley, and you're right the supporters have been a credit. Loyal yet never rabid, ready to defend Dirk against detractors with intelligent arguments and not rants. And this thread especially has been lots of fun. It's the first one I look for when I come to the forum.

voted six times for Dirk so far

He's closing the gap on the DS Forum Win Poll - now at 30% second to Shilpa at 40%....

I soo hope he gets a good & fair edit tonight on the HL show ! It could push the undecided voters his way if they want to vote for entertainment rather than politics. I hope so - this is a telly programme, not an election, so fingers crossed for Dirk tonight xxx

The most entertaining and fascinating housemate

Very persceptive, Zeus. I hadn't looked at it that way before, but I think you may be onto something there.

Also I have an idea from Caroles reaction, that she may not have been surprised at Jade's later entry into the CBB house. And so maybe that is why she looked like she was paving the way. She must have had an inkling or more than an inkling, as she has a column with one of the cheap rags that tend to sniff out such information.

I agree Susann. Excellent post Junkfoodmonkey. And Zeus, you've hit the nail on the head about Carole.

Thanks, Susann. I'm a bit shy of starting threads, I don't know why. I'm just a shrinking violet really. I'll think about it!

Might have a little tipple later in honour of Dirk making the final

I was going to opt for the vodka, but don't want to miss Dirk's moment by possibly being in a drunken stupor I would drink some whiskey in Dirk's honour, but I can't stand the stuff yuck! So it's a babysham and orange juice for me then

The US publishers have since been bought out by Penguin but there are no contact details on their UK website. And in any case, I'm not sure they'd be the best people to ask about any plans to reprint.

So anyone know who's representing him at the moment and how to contact them ? Thanks.”

Not that it's of much comfort, but Dirk's "And Then We Went Fishing" book is available via Amazon.com, but this time it's only £150! I hope they reprint it too!
