Before it's all over a little retrospective on me, Dirk and CBB.
I was very nervous when Dirk went into the house. I've been an A-Team fan for years, and Face was a teenage crush that I never got over. So I was worried that Dirk would be a hero with feet of clay and that I'd dislike him when I got to see the real person.
If he'd shown up and started being a complete git I might have tried to defend him out of fan loyalty at first, but in the end I'd have stopped watching, just out of emotional self defence.
But thank god that didn't happen!
I didn't expect him to be perfect of course, no human is perfect. I already knew he had some views I don't agree with, but of course he's entitled to his views same as me.
So it's been both a relief and a delight to find out that actually he's a good guy. As expected, he's not perfect, he's opinionated and he can be grouchy. But on the other hand his opinions are not extremist, his grouchiness was entirely in reaction to provocation, he never yelled at anyone despite that provocation.
He's witty and quite happy to make a twit of himself for a laugh. He's been on the right side throughout the whole Goody debacle and afterwards. He's not afraid to say what he thinks and won't play the "but we all love each other really" game.
I've been happy to see people who were pretty much indifferent to or unaware of him before CBB, so had no vested interest in supporting him, saying he's their favourite on the show.
So I'm happy now. Dirk's a basically good guy, with an interesting personality and my teenage crush hasn't been tarnished!
Whatever position he finishes in tonight he's a winner to me. He's the only reason I watched CBB, and frankly at times it's been an ordeal watching it. I'm just very happy he's proved worthy of all our loyalty.
