Really quiet k510i

There appears to be a problem with my new(ish) k510i. Whenever I ring someone they can hardly hear me. I'm assuming I have the microphone setting turned down really low although i cant seem to find the option to turn it up again..does anyone know how..or if not, what the problem is? Thanks.

I didn't think you could turn down the mic you speak into just the ear [iece and ringing volume.

Does the same thing happen when someone rings you?

There's no way to turn the microphone volume up. You have two options:

1) Download the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) right here from the SE website. You'll need your USB cable that came with the phone, you simply connect your phone up and the program will check for any updates for your phone that may fix any bugs.

2) Return the phone to the shop and ask for a replacement, repair or refund.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to try the update service now. I bought it on the net from Virgin Mobile, hopefully they should be alright with it. I'll report back!

Edit - It says latest software already installed! I'm overwriting it anyway, see if that makes a difference.

Ok, I've updated and its made no difference. Its really weird, i just told my mum about it and she said it has always been this bad ever since i got the phone a few months back. The thing is, I have managed to ring other people fine and they had no problems hearing me Its only the past couple of days that theres been problems with other people.

I dont get it at all I suppose I should ring Virgin but then i dont know if they'll hear me!

Try ringing your mum on the landline and see if the volume is any louder. If so, looks like your friends' volumes are too low.

Keep an eye on the update service though, they usually release new software every 3 - 6 months.

Thanks. I was ringing from mobile -> landline so theres definitely something odd going on somewhere.

Just to let everyone know that Virgin have been fantastic. I went to the Virgin Mobile bit in their Megastore today on the offchance they might be able to sort it, 2 minutes later and they are on the phone to wherever it is they ring when they get duff phones They went through all the troubleshooting, checking my phone, putting the SIM in another phone etc. At the end they were equally baffled as to why it was playing up however they are sending a replacement tomorrow free of charge! And, if its not in stock then I get a better model phone for free!

I have been on the internet and it appears that the same thing has happened to others. Unfortunatley my hand set is 13 months old. so no return available.
I cant figure it out either. my sound recorder under the entertainment options can hardly record my voice.
What a nuisance.

i will try to upload new software and see what happens

Don't get your hopes up. They won't replace it.

They will send it away for repair.

Hiya
Thanks you are right
Just returned from comet and they are sending it in for repair.
They tell me it should take two weeks.
I did wonder if it was out of guarantee whether it was something that I could have easily replaced cheaply or sorted out myself.

Hey up i thought I had replied to this thread but here is what happened. They claimed it was water damage and refused to return the phone unless i paid something ridiculous to have the phone back ( in parts and unusable) I was furious as the phone as never been anywhere damp. Not even the kitchen. Its kept dry at all times. not even been out in the rain with it. I complained as I particularly asked the assistant about the possible outcomes. If she had said that this was a possible outcome then I wouldn't have bothered. But I said to her that I had never left my phone anywhere less than dry but if they was any water damage would they still repair and she said as long as its under guarantee. I have read that you can get small amounts of damp in your phone even from the air. So in which case they need to make phones more secure.

After 2 1/2 years, I'm not sure you can expect anything else to happen. Although it obviously left a strong impression upon you. Its a pity that you didn't post here at the time, I could have guided you how to sort this.
