I have a Philips HDRW720 which is similar, the Guideplus program guide is accessed by pressing the 'Guide' button, which is at the top right of the remote on the DVDR7250.

This will bring up the Guideplus EPG, which is built into the recorder and completely separate to the Sky EPG. If there are no program or channel information showing after 24 hours, then the system has probably not been set up correctly - the instructions in the manual must be followed exactly. Also make sure that the G-LINK transmitter is connected and controls the Sky box correctly (this should have been confirmed during setup).

The DVDR7250 normally receives the Guideplus data from ITV analogue - if you do not have a good quality terrestrial signal, the data can also be obtained from Eurosport on Sky. Leave the Sky box on channel 410 overnight so the Philips can pick up the data.

HTH. The Guideplus system can be a pain to set up, but it works very well - especially when tied to an external receiver.

No, the Sky EPG is still available as normal.

The Guideplus EPG is completely separate and is contained within the recorder - the only connection between the Sky box and Guideplus is that it selects the correct channel on Sky for any recordings, using the infra-red eye, or 'G-LINK', supplied with the recorder.

HTH!

By the way, I also replied to your other query about the freeview box.

No problem!

It is possible to use the Sky Guide to record, using the autoview function on Sky Guide's Personal Planner, but it is an inferior solution with problems.

The autoview signal from Sky is often early or late, meaning that beginnings and ends of programmes are often missed. With Guideplus, you can add time to the recording easily if the recording is important.

Also, the recorder must be connected to the VCR socket on the Sky box, meaning that the superior RGB signal which is only outputted from the TV scart cannot be recorded, only the inferior composite signal. You will also need to set 'Sat Record' option in the menu to 'on'.

The Guideplus option is better if she can make it work. The problem is that the manual supplied with these machines is really difficult to follow, especially for novices. However, if you follow the instructions to the letter, it should work.

The G-LINK is a cable with a 2" long black plastic object with an LED on the end - it should be placed under the Sky box, protruding at the front so the LED points at the infra red receiver, or somewhere in the middle of the Sky box. Without this, Guideplus will never work.

It's not going to be easy for you at the end of a telephone, but I hope this info help out.

DVDR7250and Guide+

I have the Philips HD recorder in question and called Philips this morning. They are going to send me an additional box to enable me to receive the freeview program guide. They answered the freephone number straight away and were really helpful - the best customer experience I have had in a long time.
