Top Gear will never get anything like that again though. I've never watched it in my life and even I tuned in last night.

I thought it would get a bit more than that. More people watched Jade Goody's eviction at quarter to eleven on a Friday night.
Maybe the BBC didn't advertise it enough. |

Given the surprisingly large media interest at the tme of Hammond's crash, I would expect something well north of the usual 4-5m TG audience. 8m? If 9m tuned in to watch gobby Jade evicted from CBB on Friday night following the media interest last week, I don't see why TG can't peak at something similar, although the average for the hour will be lower. .... My preliminary view (I may revise this nearer the time!): BBC1: RH:PoT 3.7m BBC2: Top Gear 7m average (peak during Hammond 'piece' of 8m) ITV1: Wild at Heart 7.2m Ch4: CBB Final 5.3m (starting low at 8pm, peaking at 6.5m at end) I think Waking the Dead will outrate CBB - it has got twice the audience of CBB so far, and I don't see it falling below 7m. A very satisfying result for Top Gear - the BBC's promotion of it was very low key and sensitive. Any other broadcaster would have been tastelessly shouting from the rooftops with trailers, ads, billboards and press adverts, in order to pull in the viewers. So well done BBC for keeping it restrained, handling the footage in a very professional way during the programme, and getting the plaudits and ratings as well. |

Those are extraordinary figures for BBC2 they haven't hit 7 million in quite a while! Gradually sliding downhill is polite, quite easy to beat ratings on I would say. There is no reason why any of the 4 on analogue as well channels should have better ratings by their number than others. My ITV viewing is currently at 2 a week (beyond seing bits of anything my wife might watch), and that is ITV4, before closeure I used to watch Men & Motors, I never watch ITV2 or ITV3 and very rarely ITV1. If it wasn't for BBC and Film 4 I probably wouldn't bother! |

There is quite a high amount of predictability in the Tuesday night ratings. BBC1 & ITV1 seem to score nearly the same numbers every week. I suppose BBC1 have a lockdown from 7.30 to 10pm with Ch4 and five fighting for the remote happy audience at 9pm & 10pm
