In US TV ratings news (guess what):

America's Got Talent" drove NBC to a win Wednesday on the strength of the second-best demo ratings ever for the sophomore summer variety show.

"Talent" was the top show for the night in major categories with 12.4 million viewers and a 4.4 rating/14 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research.

That's the second-best adults 18-49 rating ever for the show behind its June 21, 2006, debut, when it averaged a 4.6/14. Tuesday's show was the third most watched ever. The two-hour "Talent" prevailed in each of the four half-hours, jumping from 9.4 million viewers and a 3.2/12 at 8 p.m. to 14.5 million viewers and a 5.2/15 at 9:30 p.m.

It crushed the competition that included Fox's "On the Lot" (2.4 million, 1.0/3) and ABC's "Fast Cars and Superstars" (3.1 million, 1.0/3) as well as repeats of CBS' "NCIS" (9.3 million, 2.0/7) and Fox's "House" (6.7 million, 2.5/7).

NBC kept up the momentum winning the 10 p.m. hour with a repeat "Law & Order: SVU" (9.4 million, 2.9/9) against ABC's "Boston Legal" (4.1 million, 1.3/4) and CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" (6.8 million, 1.9/6).
Channel 4 were foolish not to realise the potential of BGT. While very few would have predicted 11 million, it is even less likely that it would have flopped. Its not only the number one show in the US just now but its been a hit all over the world. C4 obviously thought they had another Soccer Aid/ Love Island/ X Factor: Battle of the Stars as their opposition.

How wrong they were!

There is a delay with today's supply of overnights ratings figures. They are expected at around 3pm. Broadcast will provide all figures on the start of Channel 4's US drama Brothers and Sisters as well as the return of ITV1's Cold Blood and BBC2's Rome when they arrive.

.

The 60-minute show, featuring businessman Peter Jones as he tries to help hopeful entrepreneurs establish their own business ventures, saw its audience start off with 2.3m (10.8%) but this dropped to 1.8m (9.1%) at 9.15pm, it held steady at 1.8m for half an hour and ended on 1.9m (8.7%) for the final 15 minutes.

I thought I would give it a chance because I'm a fan of The Apprentice and Dragon's Den although I don't like copycat shows much. I watched until the first ad break and wasn't hooked and turned over to Andrew Marr's show. It would seem by the ratings that many other viewers went channel hopping at the same time. It doesn't look good for future shows and I would guess if ratings do not improve in the next 2 weeks that ITV will move it to another, probably later, slot.

That's exactly what I did. As you say- we were not the only ones!

Dreadfully low start for Brothers and Sisters considering the amount of promotion it was given by Channel 4. If they don't improve I could see this being shunted off to a late night slot like they've done with a few of their other imports in the past.

The Brothers and Sisters numbers look bad. It didn't hold on to the BB audience lead ins. I only watched the first half of the 8.30pm show before switching over to Rome but what I saw of B&S wasn't gripping.

I've only seen the first episode and I need to catch up on the second but I agree, it was a very slow start. Pilots usually needs something to hook you but there really wasn't anything there to keep me watching. It wasn't that it was badly written - it was very well written in fact, but it was just...boring. I have high hopes so I will stick with it.

It lost 1/3 of its audience between episode 1 and 2

I can see why..to me it looked dull/boring from just the promotions, and that kind of put me off watching so perhaps it needs time to grow its audience!!

The overnights are a bit slow coming in today, did BARB forget to wind up their number crunching machine last night?..

Well Channel 4 didn't have a very good night last night. What about the other channels? Any news yet?

Yes it would suggest the others did better out of it.

Does anyone have individual ratings? What did Corrie get last night? I imagine that BBC ONE missed The Apprentice last night as well.

I expected Brothers and Sisters to get at least 3m for it's pilot episode so I am quite shocked by the low figures. Hopefully they will pick up as the shows moves on. It might have been a better move to start it last week, because then it wouldn't have had Rome and Cold Blood as competition as I believe those are quite popular shows.

Jet Set 2.4M
Vet Safari 2.7M
Traffic Cops 4.5M
Rome 2.2M
The Bill 5.4M
Cold Blood 4M (started at 4.5 and fell to 3.5)
Layer Cake 1.6M

I expected better from Cold Blood, looks like some viewers may have actually turned back to Channel 4 at 9:30 for the second installment of Big Brother (Rome also fell from 2.4 to 2M).

I am so disappointed with B&S! Why didn't anyone watch this great piece of drama?

I enjoyed Cold Blood but you really do need to have seen the earlier progs to understand what was going on. Anyone turning on for the first time will have struggled. I do have concerns that ITV are doing what they often do. Get a good drama (or other type of show for that matter) & then exploit it. Can they make a series of this? - time will tell.

A Traffic Cops Repeat beats a new Series opener of Cold Blood - laughable for ITV also Big Brother Nearly beats it.
Low Ratings for the Bill too. Any Idea How the soaps did ?
