I've been struggling to think what BBC2's biggest audiences have been in recent years. I reckoned it could be all the way back to The Wrong Trousers (mid 90s??) since BBC2 got a larger audience - I think that pulled about 10.5m when first shown. I think BBC2 may have had peaks of around 8m more recently for Snooker finals - I think one peaked at 7.5m within the last year or two? |

BBC1 is trying it's best to ruin the start of Primeval by scheduling Shrek up against it -
BBC1 5.55 When Will I Be Famous? 7.15 Shrek 8.35 Casualty 9.25 National Lottery - 1 vs 100 ITV1 5.55 Harry Hill's TV Burp 6.25 Dancing on Ice 7.45 Primeval 8.45 PokerFace 9.45 Dancing on Ice - The Skate Off 10.15 Al Murray's Happy Hour It might capture a lot of people who aren't that bothered about Primeval but would of watched it if there was nothing else on. Shrek's done very well on it's last two outings, nearly 10m on Christmas Eve 2004 and nearly 7m on Christmas Day 2005 at 3.10. Interesting to see BBC1 being very competitve with their scheduling, they seem to be getting more like this on Saturday nights especially - i'm sure in the past they would of carried on as normal with the lottery up against Primeval. Whether being that competitive is a good thing i'm not sure... Last edited by ronant : 01-02-2007 at 12:56. |

Skrek has been shown a few times before hasn't it, but I think a film like that will always do well. Both sides seem to be determined to undermine each others new show launches in case they get an audience and take root. ITV did the same against Robin Hood.

Well it would help if the government could work out what they BBC was supposed to do as opposed to flip flopping every couple of years from wanting it to be a quality broadcaster to then being a mass entertainment provider. The latest ventures in Saturday nights - the Graham Norton vehicle - seems like just a naked attempt to be more ITV than ITV1 itself.

Primeval will be alright now doubt, for the first episode at least. It will get a good inheritance from DOI. Shrek won't do too badly but can't see it being much of a threat.

I agree about S3. Probably, potentially, most likely the best series so far, from what I've seen. I read a review of next weeks episode in the Radio Times and they said it was quite simply the best episode of Desperate Housewives ever. I cannot wait!

i cant help but think that they used up too many plots in series 1, and some (such as Rex's death) should have been left for later series. i miss Bree from series 1 in particular, where she was the ultimate housewife, and not this paranoid emotional mess she has been over the last 2 series. |

At a reported £900,000 an episode, those figures really are a poor return. |

Am I right in guessing it's a Doctor Who/Torchwood rip-off? I can't see Shrek posing much threat. I would have thought the Beeb could have found something better to run up against it. Curious scheduling... |

Maybe I'll be wrong, I've never been good at this ratings prediction lark. |
