EastEnders beat Coronation Street - that must be the first time in years. Presumably the princes' interview had something to do with that?

Eastenders has beaten Corrie quite a few times in the last few years- notably in the Christmas period. The prince's interview didnt dent Corrie's ratings as it only got 3.3m, which is nearly the same amount of viewers that watch the 7:30 show on friday weekly. Corrie's ratings were lower than EE yesterday probably because the quality has lowered, whereas the quality in EE has increased.

So Channel 4 had a 7.7% share between 2pm and midnight, which is quite good and better than I expected, I never knew that the Channel 4 news did so well.

The BBC News got a huge audience which I didn't expect for 10.25 especially looking at the audience before the episode.

Sky News must be kicking themselves that they aren't on the Virgin platform. It's causing considerable harm to their ratings.

I'm sure Five will be happy with last night's ratings as it seems they were ahead of C4 and BBC2 between the hours of 7pm-10pm.

I expected slightly better for the William and Harry interview, but scheduling it against Dr. Who was a ridiculous idea. Still, I see it's being repeated a massive SIX times over the next week alone on Five Life.

Absolutely but when Britain's Got Talent was on, it lead to a big lead-in for ITV's night time news, and the 10 o'clock news didn't rate highly. I just thought that at that time the news wasn't trailed heavily, there weren't many people watching before and yet people hunted out the news.

I hope that Channel 4 will try to work hard on Saturday nights. If Five can do well, so can Channel 4. Maybe Saturday should be a comedy/family zone.

Good to see Doctor Who end with very strong ratings last night. A peak of 9.1million is excellent!

And could someone please give the figures of "last ever" episodes of US imports on Channel 4. So far:

Friends (2004): 8.6 million
Sex and The City (2004): 4.1 million
Frasier (2004): 2.4 million

Thanks. I forgot about that actually. I also want to know pilots of shows in the mid 80s and 90s, like Roseanne, Golden Girls, Cheers and Frasier, as well as The Sopranos and NYPD Blue.

In terms of multichannel ratings, how is the share measured? Because it puzzles me that channels like Sky One and E4 still get over 1 million, but never actually get a share of 3% anymore. Is it because a different way of seeing viewing share has changed? And now many people actually watch TV as a whole? I looked at a MediaGuardian article of Friends in 2002, and it said that E4 recorded 1.4 million and a 12%, so does this mean 10 million people are watching non-terrestrial?

Sometimes they quote the shares out of all the channels. Other times, they quote the shares from only multiplatform channels. I think that the 12% quoted, means that 12% out of all the people watching mulitchannel tv was watching friends. But the 3% quoted, is that 3% out of all viewers watching tv (including terretrial channels), watched sky one/e4.

I think they actually use all individuals watching in homes with access to multichannel, rather than all individuals watching multichannel. You don't often see shares for MCH programmes given for all homes, especially when they come from the channels themselves.

From the example quited above, I think that the 12% is probably a MCH share for that title (very high though, I don't remember Friends doing that well on E4). The 3% is probably the average daily share in MCH, which would be that low - don't forget that while E4 and Sky One occasionally top 1m, most of the time they are nowhere near.

Just came up on Media Guardian site that the concert last night peaked at 15 million

That would be why BB got 2.2 Million last night!

60% audience share is some going

but the BBC will be very embarrassed about how the show was produced/broadcast...loads of sound dips, presenters not having a clue who'd be on next, interviews chopped in half etc

so big audience, but a bad show from our national broadcaster

can't see Live Earth hitting quite the same heights though, due to the lack of the Diana factor (which would have brought in loads of older viewers) ill predict a peak of 12million during Madonna's headlining set, with an average far lower (the gig is starting off on BBC2 as well, then crossing to BBC1)

And here is the full story from Media Guardian. Just incredible!!!!!

BBC1's Concert for Diana was a runaway ratings hit yesterday, attracting a peak audience of nearly 15 million TV viewers.

Live coverage of the Wembley event, which featured acts as diverse as Duran Duran, Elton John, Lily Allen, Tom Jones, Will Young, Rod Stewart and Take That, dominated Sunday viewing from mid-afternoon until late evening.

The audience peaked towards the end of the concert, with 14.8 million viewers and a huge 60% share in the quarter hour from 10pm on BBC1, according to unofficial overnights.

Overall, the Concert for Diana averaged 8.9 million viewers and a 44% share over seven hours between 3.30pm and 10.30pm.

The audience grew steadily throughout the afternoon and evening, opening with 3.9 million viewers at 3.30pm, hitting 10 million by 8pm and climbing further after that.

The Concert for Diana proved more popular than ITV1's normally dominant Sunday peaktime line-up, with even the normally solid Emmerdale and Coronation Street taking a ratings hit.

Emmerdale was watched by 4.7 million viewers and attracted a 22% share from 7pm; while Coronation Street dipped to 6.3 million viewers and a 27% share from 7.30pm.
