14.8m see Diana concert

BBC1's coverage of the Concert for Diana was a real crowd please r last night as a mammoth peak of 14.8 million viewers (60.1%) tuned in at 10pm.
The concert at Wembley stadium, which featured music acts from Duran Duran and Tom Jones to P Diddy and Take That, managed to attract a substantial audience over the time it was on air – from 3.30pm to 10.20pm – of 8.9m (44.4%). The peak audience was reached when Elton John was on stage.
The concert kicked off with a strong 3.9m (32.6%) and it grew steadily throughout the day. By 4.30pm it had already surpassed the 6m mark with 6.1m (42.4%).
Unsurprisingly, viewing figures for the Concert for Diana trampled all over the other terrestrial channels.
ITV1's normally rock solid Sunday line up suffered. Coronation Street at 7.30pm could only draw 6.3m (27.2%), its lowest audience of the year. Heartbeat at 8pm managed a disappointing 5.2m (20.9%).
Respectable performance
BBC2's Coast managed a respectable 2.6m (10.4%) at 8pm but that was followed by Rome at 9pm on 1.9m (7.6%).
Channel 4's block of Big Brother programming also had mixed fortunes. Big Brother on the Couch had 1.3m (5%), largely in line with last week's (24 June) show. The regular update from the house at 9pm drew 2.2m (8.7%), down by 1.2m viewers on the previous Sunday.
Five struggled to break the million mark. Its two hour film The Forgotten, starring Julienne Moore, at 8pm had 900,000 (3.6%).
BBC1's coverage of the Diana concert marked a strong week for BBC1 in peaktime (6pm to 10.30pm) with the channel ending with a share of 27.6%, 10 percentage points ahead of its nearest rival ITV1.
