I'm surprised they never thought of it before. It always seemed wasted at teatime, and whilst in the 1980s it might have pulled 14-15m in that slot during the winter (no, really!), times and habits have changed. It means they can compete with ITV1's comfort programming whilst getting good ratings for a programme with a loyal audience. It also means that when Top Gear comes back, BBC1 won't necessarily take a hammering - whilst there might be some overlap between TG and AR, you'd think they were complementary audiences.
If AR stays at 8pm, I reckon 8pm Sunday will attract the biggest combined TV audience of the week this autumn once TG returns in a fortnight, certainly the biggest terrestrial audience.
