I said earlier this year, when Five stole Neighbours, that if BBC1 extended its regional news at lunchtime to a 30 mins magazine, creating a 1pm news hour to mirror the 6pm news hour, it would actually INCREASE its ratings share despite the loss of Neighbours.

I think this proves that I was probably right.

Do it, BBC. In fact, they could do it next week. Why are they still promoting a show that is switching to a rival network next year?

Why is it "pointless"? Surely, the move to 8pm would only have been pointless if it hadn't worked.

I'm amazed at how low the audience figures for BBC One's children's programmes are.

Because people still watch Neighbours, and we do pay the licence fee!

Neighbours is a popular daytime show, and I don't think the BBC would be so sly to its licence payers, especially when it is trying to rebuild our trust!

I dont really see why moving AR to 8pm is such a good move - sure its doing well there, but it was doing just as well at 6.45, which if you ask me feels like its natural home. Moving it to 8pm means the schedule as a whole is poorer - look at this coming sunday for example, repeats of As Time Goes By and Last of the Summer Wine between 6.35 and 7.35. Its just moved the problem. Still it should be only temporary, in the winter theres the 10 part Lark Rise to Candleford in the 8pm slot which i think will do very well.

Prison Break flopped on Sky One with just 459,000 viewers.

To be fair - it's a decent audience. It never did brilliantly on Five anyway so it wasn't going to be getting the kind of figures that Lost does.

Which reveals their policy of buying series half way through is flawed.

Who on Earth is going to watch a series for the first time if they have missed the entire arc that has set it up over the preceding two years?

Threy retain some of the viewers from 5, but lose many of them as they will have baulked at paying for Sky just to carry on watching this show.

Sky used to pick winners and bid for them before they aired in the US. Stealing them off other channels as their star is fading is a doomed policy.

BBC One is really pulling back on Sundays now. It was nowhere to be seen months ago.

I think it was 1.2m - pretty impressive at 6pm on a multichannel!

But Sky's model is not just based on ratings, it's based on subs as well. Certainly possible that some people might have switched platform due to Lost, or even due to Prison Break.

Great night for BBC1 there. Silent Witness is still doing really well. Even The One Show is getting a good share.

ITV gets the mediocre ratings it deserves for last night. Still rolling out Millionaire (twice a week now?) despite it being well past its peak. Shoplifters - Caught On Camera sounds like something that belongs on Bravo or perhaps 5ive at best. Hardly peak time viewing.

Have to agree, ITV have lost the plot. They were beaten by Gavin and Stacey at 10pm, and that only pulled in 1.5m

Don't call me stupid (is that something the controller has to say to his juniors - wah wah) got 1.4m.

I'm kind of baffled why they made this show. If I was them I'd be tempted just to swap it with Billie's ITV2 show, that couldn't do worse than 1.4m and Don't Call Me Stupid seems like ITV2 fodder.

Does anyone know if Holly and Fearne go dating completed it's run or was it pulled. That was another 10pm disaster.

If ITV can sell 40 minutes of ad time between 6-11pm and they can sell 36 minutes of that ad time between 7-10pm and presumably the other 4 minutes between 6-7pm, it doesn't make sense to invest in expensive programming at 10pm, when they dont sell much ad time anyway.

But surely putting crap like this on pulls down their overall share and therefore what advertisers are willing to pay?

doesnt matter if you are not selling ad time during the 10pm hour. If they can make more money in the 7-10pm block they will sell all their ad time during those vhours & run (relatively) cheap programming in the 10pm hour.

I quite liked the Dont Call Me Stupid Show anyway. I thought it was something different & quirky. Didnt see last nights one but saw Phil Tuffnell & Brian Sewell. It was quite amusing.

So why do they bother quoting the all day shares - they must have some bearing, no?
