There is certainly a group of viewers who could switch to either side. Many will watch the X Factor repeats (which often total up to 2 million or more). Although I don't know whether those 2m are watching SCD, or are just out on a Saturday night. Given the X Factor demographics, it is possible.

SCD is doing well this year, and for a show that sounds so tacky, All Star Family Fortunes is doing very well. It's not one that's ever talked about, but it regularly gets around 7 million.

You right, when SCD ends 4 million viewers leave BBC1 and dont return where as last year they did for the results show hence also boosting the news and the show on beforehand, normally Casualty.

IIRC last year BBC1 and ITV1 primetime share was much closer whereas this year its a walk over for ITV1. If only SCD was on sometime between 7 and 9, maybe BBC1 would have a better night.

Its swings and roundabouts as SCD results have jump started quite an effective Sunday night schedule for BBC1. At the end of the day, ITV benefit from the huge surge jumping ship to X Factor when SCD finishes and alot of these people are staying with the channel through the evening.
Robin Hood is getting a decent figure, especially when you add in the ratings it gets on Sunday-3 million I believe last week.
I thought there might be a few cracks in X Factor a few weeks ago but it has surged again, presumably being helped along by the early scheduling of SCD. Whatever happens now its audience is hooked until the end.

My uncle used to play golf with him says extremley dfferent off camera, Not doubting hes a born entertainer and its just pheonominal that hes 80 and still up there entertaining the crowd each week but if like me youve been watching Strictly for 5 years you to would find thats he's predictable and repetitive now.

And Dermot has really come in to his own of course hes never going to be as whitty or as entertaining as Brucie, he's 3 times older than him but you have to remember TXF attracts a younger audience and therefore Bruce would not work on TXF.

IMO both shows really uped their game this week proving there as popular as the big two soaps.

Maybe people are waiting to see if he will do a Tommy Cooper on air some week

It's quite interesting that X Factor has increased it's ratings to the same time last year and is well ahead of it's first series while the soaps have fallen quite a bit in the past 4 years. SCD seems to be doing well, too, and probably ahead of previous years.

Surely those statistics merely highlight the increasing stupidity of ITV.

Moving The X Factor to a later slot and merging it with the results show, say 7.30pm-9.30pm, would be a much bigger ratings winner.

Instead it insists on a partial clash with Strictly every week; which it will lose time and time again.

I'm not entirely sure the BBC see it that way. For the BBC to claw back on Sunday night is far more important strategically, given that Sunday nights are often a clear win for ITV. In recent weeks, it's no longer the case...

Looking at those figures its a good job Strictly and TXF arent going directly head to head.

I think the BBC are the bigger muppets - putting their most popular show out so early that most people only tune in as it's going off. It's back to 5.45 again next week, I see. Idiots.

With XF getting sensibly later (next week it runs for a full 1hr10mins after SCD has finished), the ratings boost as viewers switch over when Robin Hood comes on means I predict XF will move ahead in the ratings from next week, and now average 10m+, until the end of its run.

Stupid, stupid BBC.

Casualty is really suffering at the moment. Even without IACGMOOH, it's ratings have been poor of late. This was a programme that once got a regular 15-16m, and even a couple of years ago was getting 9-10m a week in the peak winter months. Turning it into a year round soap lost it millions of viewers, particularly those who just enjoyed tuning in to the drama to "guess the accident". Now I guess it's just another soap and people don't feel the need to tune in each week, particularly if there's something interesting on the other side.

I suspect there's not much the Beeb can do to reverse the decline, short of making it a drama series again and limiting it to say 20 wks a year.

In the meantime, I can't help thinking it would have done better for itself and for BBC1's evening share had it started at 9.15pm, head to head with IACGMOOH. That would have enabled SCD to start 25 mins later (more of an issue next week) and move everything else along, with Omid saved for some other slot - say 10.35pm Friday from January.

How much better would BBC1's performance have been last night?

It's so obvious, you can see why the BBC Scheduling Idiots haven't gone for it...

It would seem that on the 8th December the two shows miss each other completely.
Its difficult to work out, maybe its the logistics of filming the longer show for the Sunday slot which compels them to schedule the early start time. Maybe the BBC dont want to be seen as desperate for ratings.
If it was me I would run SCD neck and neck with X Factor.

All change from next week. It has 70 minutes without a clash, and no clash at all the week after.

A sensible move by ITV, from their point of view. It means XF's ratings are less hit by SCD, and will leave XF to take the ratings lead and get what should be an easy 10m+ audience, leaving SCD in the shade.

It would appear a total of 11.34 million tuned into Cranfords first episode-costume drama is alive and very well!
I think it always helps being scheduled in the run up to Christmas.
Also approaching 8 million in total for Robin Hood. Surely there will be another series-though it would be interesting to see how it would fare if it was scheduled at 6.00 rather than being thrown to the lions as people rush to switch over for X Factor. Few shows have to put up with such a handicap and I think its a testament to the brand that its retained a loyal 5.5 million on Saturday nights.

All hours shares for Sunday 25 November 2007: BBC1 – 22.5%, ITV1 – 21.3%, C4 – 8.9%, BBC2 – 8.8%, Five – 6.2%, multichannel – 34.4%.

Peaktime (6pm to 10.30pm) shares: ITV1 – 26.5%, BBC1 – 23.4%, BBC2 – 9.8%, C4 – 7.8%, Five – 4.1%, multichannel – 28.5%.

Despite BBC1's stronger competition, ITV still winning in peaktime & putting in a stronger daytime performance as well.

Any news on whether the BBC will switch the SCD results back to Saturday?

They did say at the start that this would occur later in the series but I doubt they expected it to decimate Emmerdale quite so easily. So they may be tempted to keep it on Sunday.

My concern is that the final HAS to have a live results show as it would be criminal to let the winner leak during the 24 hour delay.

With the US version ending tonight and tomorrow there is no need for the judges and announcers et al to be jetting off to Hollywood every Sunday. So they could even keep it on that day and do it live.

Then we might even get the results show back in HD, which is still inexplicably not happening next weekend.

In 2 weeks time, the Sports Personality of the Year means the results show runs from 6.15pm - 7pm

But anyway, any benefit is offset by the decrease in audience on Saturday nights

Its probably one of the Beebs core targets to improve its Sunday night performance and by and large its doing that SCD, TopGear, Cranford, Antiques Rd show etc are all doing great and who would have thaught the BBC would beating the likes of EM, I'm a celeb, Heartbeat (combining BBC 1 and 2).

And if they get desperate they could always bring back VoD repeats which got more viewers than Al Murray, The divas, The Kylie show etc at 9.25

I cant see how the Omid Djalli show gets 3-4 mil its bloody awful, it can only be because of that slot. Its a insult to more minor comedies like The Mighty boosh, Lead Balloon that dont get half that audience.

Heartbeat is still the winner of the slot. I don't see why you're combining BBC1 and BBC2. They're two separate channels with two separate programmes.
