The football (Man Utd vs Aston Villa) did good numbers. Casualty also doing much better than it was in the Autumn. Millionaire does seem to have got its legs again as well. Otherwise not too much of note on a rather quiet Saturday.

It's not going to well for ITV at the moment is it.

So it guarantees a good lead in for TV Burp next week. Both should get 5-6m, which should guarantee 6m for Primeval.
Millionaire should get about 5.5m, Thank God You're Here might hit 4m.

Compared to the last 2 Saturday's those figures are fantastic, but they could do better.

Yes, ITV should be safe for a few weeks with Millionaire, Primeval, YBF & TV Burp all performing well. But I don't expect anything over the next few weeks to top 6m, especially with DOI gone.

Reviving Millionaire seems to have been one of the things ITV have done right, as it was getting around 3.5m if I remember correctly.

The only worries ITV should have are Thank God You're Here & Duel.

MOTD Live did well. Whilst watching the match, I thought the ratings would be lower, as it was quite a boring game, and I thought people would turn off- seems not.

BBC-2
Porridge (19:25) - 2.16m (10.0%)
Timewatch (19:55) - 1.94m (8.6%)
Have I Got Old News For You (21:25) - 2.30m (10.2%)
The Village (21:55) - 1.32m (7.3%)

Channel-4
Channel 4 News (19:00) - 1.01m (4.9%)
1983: The Brink Of Apocalypse (19:30) - 1.11m (4.9%)
Notting Hill (21:00) - 2.14m (10.3%)

Five
Police Academy (18:50) - 1.97m (8.2%)
Navy NCIS (20:30) - 1.38m (5.6%)
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (21:25) - 1.67m (7.5%)
Law And Order: Special Victims Unit (22:25) - 1.42m (8.0%)

---Great night for FIVE,as usual for them on a Saturday. Police Academy performed excellently for them as did the US Import repeats.

Good ratings for Notting Hill, but when will CH4 learn, that documentaries & history programmes hardly ever perform for them on a Saturday night!!

Fairly strong line up for BBC2 as well with the repeats doing the best for them.---

The DOI move is certainly one aspect of the changes which will run in the BBC 1's favour to a great extent, this time last year it was consecutively getting 3-4mil with that crappy BGT counteract presented by Norton and VoD repeats, it got loads of shows above 6mil and hardly ever slipped below 20% last night (even towards 11pm) which is good for them.

ITV 1 will do well next week with the return of Primeval and TV Burp and Millionaire seems to be doing okay-ish but its getting lots of promotion and is a celeb version which I assume wont run all year through however its early evening schedule may suffer in the light of the FA cup qualifiers and isnt it normally aroound Feb-March that Dr Who returns which I can also see doing well in the light of its 12mil at crimbo.

Indeed. I notice ITV are billing it as some sort of comedy night next Saturday. Apparently Millionaire qualifies simply because that unfunny, overrated buffoon Peter Kay is gonna be on.

I'm looking forward to Thank God You're Here though

FIVE
Home & Away-1.7 million
Strongest Man-1.8 million
NCIS-2.3 millon

CH4
Deal Or No Deal-3.0 million
Come Dine With Me-2.7 million
Hollyoaks-1.9 million
A Place In The Sun-1.6 million

Excellent ratings for Strongest Man all week, likely to be the 3rd most watched show of the week, behind NCIS which continued to perform excellently. Also Home & Away still performing excellently as well.

Hopefully never, as I enjoy watching them. I dont care if they only get 3-5% share. Its public service tv.

I take it you don't like the talent shows then

I would think the only reason CH4 keep putting them on is that they must be getting some good reviews & people respect the channel for putting on a decent alternative to the entertainment and crime dramas. Therefore boosting their reputation

Though it seems ER is returning in that primetime slot from next Saturday.

Channel 4 is giing people something different on Saturday nights, which is great. These programmes aren't going to get huge audiences if they put them on midweek either, but they are what Channel 4 should be doing. Never mind the ratings!

Must say I was surprised to see the trail for ER next Saturday.

That's what I've been thinking. I think I've got it down at 2.5m or thereabouts in the ratings prediction game thread. Everyone else seems to think it'll do a bit better, but I'm not convinced.

2.5m for a 9pm drama on BBC1 would be awful though. I don't think they've ever rated that low with a fiction piece in that slot, have they?

Did it drop that low? I had actually forgotten that was on at 9 o'clock. Still, 2.5m would be unusually low.

There was a 9pm drama that got 1.9m which I think is the record low for new drama on BBC1. Can't remember the name of it; I think it featured Keith Allen but beyond that...

Maybe 5-6 yrs ago?

Fairy Tales will get a lot more than 1.9m, or even 2.5m. Not as if there's much competition from ITV1...

I think that was an 8pm slot, wasn't it? I remember thinking it 'fell between two stools' (cue puns). The pre-watershed timeslot meant it couldn't be 'racy' and it desperately needed to be to make it interesting!
