Wonder how long ITV's shareholders will put up with this?”

Well as a shareholder, I'd rather they were delivering the right audience to the advertisers but as a viewer I'm enjoying Al Murray as the best chat show on the box and dont give a sod if others cant recognise its brilliance.

New here, hi everybody!

You know I can't help thinking what would have happened if BBC1 had decided to stick Ashes to Ashes on a Friday night...

By the way A Question of Sport (20:30) got 3.0m (13%).

EastEnders being beaten by both Coronation Street episodes. BBC1 won't be happy with that

Are they planning on actually putting out new programmes at 9pm on a Friday at some point? It seems that now ITV have stopped the Friday drama repeats, BBC1 have taken it over

Well that's not working then, is it?

It wouldn't be getting 7m viewers, but would be doing better than a New Tricks repeat is.

That is quite normal. I think it's only recently it's managed to beat one of its two shows

No sorry don't have that.

BBC1 probably will be content with it, as the 2nd corrie only beat ee by 0.1m. Also, EE got a higher share than the 2nd corrie. But I did expect EE to get a higher rating than that.

Well the ITV shares are a one way bet at the moment. You have a company that still delivers £300m net cash every year, the Sky overhang is being resolved and there are bidders sniffing at a buyout at about 100p per share. Plus ITV1s year on year share is up and its starting to deliver an audience mix that advertisers actually want. So the prophets of gloom are a bit overdone.

The Palace facing the axe:

Quote:
“OFF with its head! Trash TV show The Palace is facing the AXE – because viewers think it’s royally rubbish.

ITV bosses had big plans for the drama and hoped viewers would flock to it when it launched last month.

They put loads of cash into promoting its mix of sex and scandal.

Its sexy young stars and thinly disguised depiction of life in Buckingham Palace were seen as a winning formula that would run and run.

But only 3.5million viewers tuned in and now insiders say plans for a second series will be scrapped.

Last night ITV were non-committal about the show – but insiders claimed the writing was already on the wall.

A source said: “It’s a shame but with figures like that it won’t continue. It wasn’t cheap to make either so bosses are planning something else.

“You can’t really blame ITV for commissioning The Palace – it had all the right ingredients for a hit.

“People are obsessed with the Royal Family and what they get up to behind closed doors.

“The Palace at least went some way to lifting the lid – even if it was very sensationalised.”

Chaos

Produced by the company behind Channel 4’s Shameless, The Palace follows a fictitious Royal Family thrown into chaos after the king dies.

The eldest son – Prince Richard (Rupert Evans) – takes the throne aged just 24.

He creates havoc with his behaviour, including bedding the Prime Minister’s spokeswoman.

The palace airs on Monday nights and an ITV spokesman said: “A decision will be made at the end of its run in four weeks.””

Would think all of the following face the axe:

- The Palace
- Moving Wallpaper
- Echo Beach
- Thank God You're Here
- Duel

Al Murray must be clinging on by his fingertips.

Perhaps the BBC could do something for him if the axe does fall - it's a great show, even if last night's was a bit dull.

I think Duel might get a second shot, but not in Saturday primetime, perhaps on weekdays at 5pm.

I'm not so sure Moving Wallpaper and Echo Beach will be dropped either. I think they're shows that perhaps might get a second run but will probably be moved out of the Friday night slot. Maybe I'm being optimistic because I think both are improving on a weekly basis now and definitely deserve a second chance.

They have Jonathan Ross, far more whitty and genuinly funny. Al Murray has no comic presence what so ever, they've got it spot on with Harry Hill on Saturday, ITV aught to invest in genuine talent for Friday night at 10pm because compared to other Firday night shows this is piss poor even poor old Dame Edna was better than this.

I get the impression that there trying to create a working class hero like the Shane Richie affect. Some could say there meeting the demands of there audience.

I think to be fair to Al Murray, you either like pub humour or you don't, and if you don't, steer clear. It does occur to me though that it's best appreciated with a few pints/Drambuies already inside you

The palace airs on Monday nights and an ITV spokesman said: “A decision will be made at the end of its run in four weeks.” - so no decision has been made at all, making the whole story completely pointless

I think hell will freeze over before the Beeb offer Al Murray a show.

You are joking right? Must be if you think Ross has better comedic timing than Murray. Ross isnt a comedian for starters.

- The Palace - I'd agree. I can't see how it could be salvaged. People gave it a go to begin with but simply turned off
- Moving Wallpaper - I've found it quite promising but they need to find it a better slot.
- Echo Beach - Far too lightweight for primetime. ITV 2 show at best
- Thank God You're Here - Interesting format but needs good guests to work. Ive just watched Claudia Winkleman die on her feet but this Rufus guy is hilarious. Needs earlier timeslot though
- Duel - Begging for a weekday 5pm slot with tinkered format and prize fund

I have to agree on timeslot. Next week it's on later than the Sunday night repeat!

Saturday 16/2 10.30-11.30pm on ITV1
Sunday 17/2 10.15-11.15pm on ITV1 (R)

How stupid is that? Yet another example of ridiculous scheduling.

I've always wondered about the budgets for these TV shows. The actors earn a packet don't they?

I think we should be told!

Even if they are the best thing on TV now, me like most people won't bother watching again after their ropey first couple of episodes.

I can't see them getting a second series (and as the ratings have dropped so much - even those still watching have given up).

Friday nights was so wrong for this.

I know Only Fools and Horses would never had continued passed it first series with that attiude but BBC/ITV was all there was, now with multichannel TV, why waste your time on something that might get better?
