Good rating for Ashes to Ashes. Expected it to be lower to be honest.

By the way, thought it would be a suitable place to advertise the: Ratings Predictions Game: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=720097

I know a lot of you have played it, so this is a reminder that you can now submit your week 7 predictions. Even if you haven't played before, you can join, and it's really easy. And it doesn't matter that you've missed so many weeks, because the league is done by a week by week basis. So don't hesitate to give it a go!

I hate to hark on about it, but it just keeps getting worse for MW/EB. I think any hope of a recommission in any slot looks misplaced.

If it had consistant ratings that would be one thing, but more and more of the viewers it does have are turning off. Last among the terrestrials is awful although I don't expect ITV to pull it as that would be terrible publicity. They're probably better just seeing it off and quietly putting it to sleep at the end of its run. How long has it left?

Last night was episode 6 of 12 As you say, I think they'll see out this run witout a schedule change or cancellation, as that would be too embarassing. Apparently Martine McCutcheon is pleased with the audience response! Having said that, MW is doing a bit better, but still a woeful figure really.

It's such a shame 'Moving Wallpaper' and 'Echo Beach' are doing so badly. MW in particular is fantastic! Admittedtly, if that didn't run along with it, I wouldn't bother with EB, but all the same it's a new and innovative idea and has been a complete disaster. They started off with like 6m each as well didn't they?

If I can politely correct you, last night was ep 7.

Still over a month to go.

I cant see ITV being able to justify another series of MW and EB, even with an 8-9mil lead in it cant perform very well.

Thanks very much for those, ronant.

So it looks like Echo Beach came 5th out of 5 terrestrials last night.

The One Show continues to surprise me: 4.5m and 22% share against Emmerdale is fairly amazing for a magazine show. Perhaps the audience appreciates something different in that slot.

And Neighbours holds 2m+ viewers all week, probably peaking at 2.4m and a great 16% share on Wednesday (I haven't seen Thursday's figure). Five can be very pleased with those figures. I known they hyped it massively, but given all those extra chances to see repeats (including today's omnibus whose rating will be interesting) I think they've had a very promising start.

I stand corrected. Was looking at the wrong Radio Times

As you say, still a long haul when you get figures like 1.9m

The five min breakdown would be interesting. The episode ended around 20.55 so this will have dragged down the overnight figure quite alot!

Dreadful ratings for Echo Beach. I don't think it has a hope of getting another series on ITV1. Perhaps one of the more obscure satellite channels, but even that's a stretch.

It was even beaten by Rude Tube.

I have to admit I'm struggling with Echo Beach. It has potential but there's nothing really there to hook me. It's too 'teatime' for a 9.30pm slot IMO. It would probably work better on ITV2.

Moving Wallpaper however is absolutely fantastic IMO and I really want to see it return.

Being as ITV1 abandoned the Benidorm repeats last Autumn, maybe they should show those at 9.30 instead of Echo Beach, and let the last few eps of EB go out at 11.40.

It seems that the public in general just do not take to the concept of removing the fourth wall.

Look at how poorly Studio 60 fared?

And the excellent show 30 Rock (which is much funnier than Moving Wallpaper) gets minute audiences here and not that great even in the US.

Still at least they have recognised its quality (as shown by the awards and nominations) and it has got another series.

Moving Wallpaper/Echo Beach is more evidence of this problem, but I dont think we can fault ITV for giving the concept a go. Flawed in its execution as it was.

Somehow I think this was just never an ITV 1 audience project.

They're not as ruthless in pulling programmes here as in the US - apparently the writer's strike has been an excuse to cull a lot of programmes, including Bionic Woman, starring Eastenders' Michelle Ryan.

I think they'll just ditch the whole project and I can't blame them. It hasn't worked out at all and the situation just worsens each week. I think so many people have switched off that it's beyond repair. If it can only get 1.9m at primetime then there is no way they can put it on ITV2, God knows how low the ratings would go. And the budget would need to be cut back, it was made as a primetime soap to be getting 5 million viewers, not for a satellite channel.

I think American TV is far more competitive though. They have FOX, NBC, CBS and ABC all capable of getting huge ratings with the right show. ITV's only real competition in terms of ratings is BBC1 (although others might beat it in one slot) and it's public service.

Surely Duel should get 3.5-4m tonight with a potentially strong Ant and Dec lead in.

I caught the last half hour and thought it was actually quite good. I wouldn't be surprised to see ITV wield the axe at Honest, The Palace, Moving Wallpaper, Echo Beach, Thank God You're Here but I wonder would they give this a shot at 5pm? All they have just now is Goldenballs.

One idea (and one that I'm not really convinced by) would be moving the ITV Evening News later and filling the slot with quizshows like Goldenballs, Millionaire, Pokerface and Duel. While the average for the 6pm -7pm slot might be slightly lower, I think these shows could pull decent ratings as an alternative to the news on BBC1 and youth orientated programming on C4. The losses at 6pm-7pm could be made up by having the late news moved to 11pm and making a go of the 10pm hour where the average must be just over 1.5m just now between Nat and the repeats. Essentially they would run like US networks, with 3 hours of primetime broadcasting between 8pm and 10pm.

Or, they could run them from 5.30pm, and switch their local news to 7pm and keep running the 6.30pm bulletin (which performs quite well?) then have Emmerdale at 7.30pm each night?

Also, I noticed alot of promotion kicking off for Rock Rivals. Does anyone know where they are slotting this into the schedule? If this goes the same way of The Palace and Echo Beach then it's a real disaster, but I think there is some potential for it to become the next Footballers Wives. It certainly seems to start with a bang, whether it can keep it up is another matter. Simon Cowell's company withdrew from the project because of "outlandish" plots, but that might work in favour of the series. Also, The Fixer should be starting soon.
