Suffering with the lack of soaps.

When i first saw the shares I had to look twice because it seemed like they had many strong shows yesterday i.e Heartbeat, Formula 1, He Kills Coppers, 10pm News (before BBC1's). I would guess that Heartbeat may be down a little aswell with a poor schedule around it.

After looking at the multichannel shares aswell, it seems that they're really starting to take over now and establish themselves, especially ITV's channels-which is ironic considering ITV1's share is continuing to drop

Sky One did really well yesterday with 2.1%. It usually gets 1% for Sundays. So, I think Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic did really well. Maybe one of Sky One's highest audiences ever.

Last year it had 5, hour long, audition shows, 3 hour and a half semi-finals and two hours for a final (split for main show and results). Because they won't be able to do the 1 1/2 hour shows since the news moved to 10pm I expect there will be at least one more semi final show. But even though America's Got Talent was a big success even NBC didn't try to drag it out much more. I don't think it can be due to the repetitive nature of some of the contestants.

But I do think it will have to move to Saturdays to take the slot that Grease had last year.


It was hardly a stand-out success, but I think that taking an inheritance from BGT, it could hold alot of viewers which I don't expect "Beat the Star" to do.

I think ITV are sorta delaying Britain's Got Talent because they want to show the auditions and live shows weekly. They need to ensure that it doesn't clash with Simon's schedule with American Idol.

I heard it was starting in April, but according to Wikipedia's article on Britain's Got Talent:

"Executive producer Richard Holloway confirmed at the live auditions that the show would air in mid-May with the live finals starting on 26th May. The auditions will air in a primetime Saturday night slot, whilst the semi-finals will be shown daily over one week - May 26 to May 30 - concluding in the final on Saturday night, May 31."

If that is true then the first auditions should start on 26th April.

This suggests total multi-channel share 45.5% - is that one of the highest ever?

Any news on the share for Sky Sports 1? They had one of their biggest football days of the year with "Grand Slam Sunday" - ie Man Utd v Liverpool and Chelsea v Arsenal.

Ironically Dexter gets higher viewing figures here in the UK than USA. That's a very rare thing, considering America is 5x bigger than us.

Oh yeh you're right- i forgot that they were also broadcasting it on CBS.

When season 1 was originally shown on Showtime, it premiered with something like 1.2m then it went down to under 1m.

Out of interest, for those in the know. Does the BARB system make allowances for people watching on an HD simlucast? e.g. on Sky One HD, rather than just the SD version of Sky One? In other words are those viewers counted, and added to the total?

Also are allowances made for viewers using the red button Multi-start option?

I don't think yesterday's figures are in due to the Bank Holiday. They'll be in definitely tomorrow or mayeb tonight.

I don't think the Sky One HD viewers are added to the Sky One total- although I'm not exactly sure. Nevertheless, even if it was added, it would most likely not affect the ratin; perhaps on the odd occasion add 0.1m to the total, which is not much. )

I wonder how the 9pm dramas did last night, in the absence of any overnights?

I've been away so yet to view either, but I reckoned it would probably be about 3.5m for No 1 Ladies'... and 6-7m for He Kills Coppers.

Looking at the all-day shares though, I'm not so sure. How could ITV1 manage less than 15% if it comprehensively won the 9pm slot, had Heartbeat in there and grand prix live (60-70% share presumably for 3 hrs) and re-run coverage* (which got 4m in a similar slot last week), and little of note on BBC1?

Could the reported 14.9% for ITV1 be a mistake?

(*BTW: catching up on last week's big news, I'm mystified at ITV's decision to give-up its F1 rights, which brings in great viewing shares for 18 Sundays a year, even when races are shown primetime - 10m for the Brazillian GP - and in the key demographics. Is it so hard-up it has to give up such lucrative rights in order to secure 17 Wednesday night football matches, many of which will only get 5m or so viewers in place of Coronation St's 10m? Is it suffering for having paid so much to wrest the FA Cup and England rights away from the BBC?

Not that I'm complaining. As an F1 fan, I'm delighted it's "coming home" to a network that will actually show me the full race live. Roll on 2009, the end for James Allen, and the return of The Chain too, hopefully...)

Well the reported 14.9% comes from C4 sales but maybe it could be a mistake (19.4% perhaps?)

Also think that No1 ladies was more like the expected Sunday night material than He kills Coppers - and if No1 ladies did well remember it was on for nearly 2 hours so could have made a big difference.

The adaptation of The No1 Ladies Detective Agency on BBC1 – directed by Anthony Minghella, who died last week – had 6.3million viewers the same evening.

It also says that The Colour of Magic had 1.7m.

I've never known Channel4 Sales make mistakes before, but the ITV shares usually go up by up to 0.5% sometime when the Broadcast shares are released, so expect around 15.3%(ish) when the Broadcast figures are released today

The Sunday share suggests that the ITV1 schedule did not appeal to the 35+ age range.

In the 16-34 range they won the day:

so older viewers flocked to BBC1 in the evening perhaps?

They did have Ice Age on, and the Grand Prix, so I imagine it was that pulling the young audience in rather than their prime time line up.

Seems to be a problem for ITV in getting shows that appeal to the 16-34 bracket + other age groups.

Since 16-34's watch very little tv relative to the 45-54 and 54-65 age groups, you will never win total share without at least some cross over appeal to these age groups. DOI managed it as did Celebrity and X Factor to some extent.
