I think ADWD did dent it a bit, but I also think it was because it was new, word of mouth helped it a lot throughout the week (also advertising )

Did the BBC not already do their own version of So You Think You Can Dance?

Not officially.

They have had dancing shows (Strictly Dance Fever, Dance X), but no UK version of So You Think You Can Dance.

I think that was Strictly Dance Fever which came before So You Think Can Dance debuted in 2005 on FOX but it was axed to make way for ADWD and now IDA.

SYTCD has been a success in both the USA and Australia and i read ages ago that a UK version was on the card with Cat Deeley presenting and Nigel Lythgoe as a judge.

The BBC version was Strictly Dance Fever, which if I remember rightly was basically a non-celebrity version of Strictly Come Dancing? SYTYCD has a completely different format, its more based on all types of dancing and performances are done solo as opposed to with a partner (backing etc are used).

ITV could have some success with it but I don't think they would pick it up based on how Strictly Dance Fever did.

Where would ITV put another reality shows such as SYTYCD think about it DOI running from Jan-Mar, BGT Apr-July and TXF Aug-Dec.

BGT ends in May.

BGT will be done and dusted by the end of May. (Live shows on consecutive nights like last year)

So it's more DOI Jan-Mar, BGT Apr-May, XF Aug-Dec

So there is a gap for Jun-Jul - an ITV summer reality dance show could probably fill it, before SCD starts. But I don't want to give them ideas.

Dancing on Ice: Jan-March
Britain's Got Talent: April-late May/early June
new reality show needed: late June-early August
X Factor: late August-December

At the moment, ITV's summer schedule is not good. In recent years they have tried different things such as Complete the Lyrics, Movies, Grease is the world, etc. All have flopped. They need a reality show, so that they have a reality show every season of the year. Perhaps So You Think You Can Dance can go there- it's the type of show which would work in the summer, I think. I'm trying to think of other international hit reality tv shows; ummm.... Survivor does well in the USA, but I don't think it did too well on ITV a few years ago. Can anyone remember what sort of ratings it got back then? I think if ITV changed the format slightly, it could become a hit.

Problem with scheduling SYTYCD UK in the summer is that the US version airs around the same time which would cause problems if they want to have Cat Deeley as host and Nigel Lythgoe as a Judge.

I've always thought The Amazing Race would be the perfect Saturday Night show for ITV1 but it is quite an expensive show to produce which may be why there has not been a UK version.

They don't necessarily need to have Cat and Nigel in the UK version. Cat's not exactly the most popular presenter around here. Also, I don't think most people know who Nigel is.

I can't believe Pushing Daisies did so well, how wrong was I? I also can't believe that ITV1 have dropped an episode of it - they really have no idea do they?

BBC ONE and ITV1 both did very well on a Saturday night, its always heartening seeing a majority of the audience on the terrestrial channels.

Oh so BGT is going back to weeknights? Thaught it would run on a Saturday the whole way through.

In that case a dance show would fit in, not sure where though. You know this PD thing, there is going to be a compensation of it somewhere, there not just jumping from week 1 to 3 are they? Surely not.

I know, ITV could have come in for so much praise for taking a risk and broadcasting such an un-ITV show in primetime Saturday night and one which is doing well in the ratings. Unfortunately, their decision to drop an episode is so ridiculous that they don't really deserve much praise.

Yes, pushing daisies did really well, and much better than what some of us expected. Shocking decision from ITV for dropping episode 2, after all the promotion they gave the show- ridiculous! Teletext still have sort of put a negative spin on it's ratings:


Incidentally, last night Britain's Got Talent got a 1-minute peak of 10.6m. I'd Do Anything got a 1-minute peak of 6.5 million (28.7%).

I think they did well as its used to be on 830pm after eastenders

Nigel was one of the judges on Popstars which was one of the first talent shows so people will have some idea who he is plus he is the creator of the format along with Simon Fuller so I would think he would want to be part of the show.

Dancing on Ice: Make Me a Star is being made into a proper show for the summer apparently.


Survivor did really badly. I can't see it being back.



I'd like The Amazing Race, but knowing ITV they would screw it up. Might be good for BBC1 in The Apprentice's slot.

He wouldn't need to, though. Simon Cowell is the creator of several shows that he hasn't judged on. Lythgoe doesn't judge on the Australian show, either. I'm sure his first priority would be to get it on air in the UK, which I'd expect they have already tried.

The Guardian are rubbishing Pushing Daises ratings on Saturday night.

Odd, considering that of ITV's new dramas launched this year, PD is probably the highest rated debut of many of them. And it is on a Saturday night, did they not see what Duel was getting ?

How can they say it did badly? 5.7 Million is great and ITV's new Saturday schedule looks like it is going to be a major success.

What are they on about? 5.7m is amazing for a US import in primetime ITV1 on a Saturday night. Certainly better than anything else has done in that slot for a LONG time.

It's nonsense isn't it. PD's figures were great.
