a Little guess at Tonight's Figures

So The Easter Holiday have started - The Weather is wonderful but The Ratings will be terrible

Emmerdale (ITV1 , 7:00) 6.4m 36%
Coronation Street (ITV1 , 7:30) 8.6m 43%
Eastenders (BBC1 , 8:00 ) 8.0m 39%
My Family (BBC1 , 8:30) 6.5m 27%

And now ITV will have a monopoly on terrestrial football that will harm the show big time so they should keep it out of harms way as much as they can. The show is damaged anyway in terms of public perception share means nothing to them headlines about it only being watched by 8 million makes it seem a lame duck show.”

Where are the headlines its been only watched by 8 million???

A 46% share is very good for EastEnders which has been consistently drawing around a 40% share for a while now. The ratings merely reflect the effect the weather has on TV - as already stated there were less people watching that night, yet a larger amount of them in a while chose to watch EastEnders. Although I have sometimes wondered whether BBC ONE should move EastEnders to a permanent 8pm slot on the days it is shown, to avoid clashes with Emmerdale; from the BBC's point of view it would also dent The Bill.

Predictions for tonight -

EastEnders (8.00pm, BBC ONE) ~ 8.1 million viewers; 43% audience share
My Family (8.30pm, BBC ONE) ~ 6.3 million viewers; 28% audience share
But it would also dent EastEnders. A couple of weeks ago when EE went up against The Bill because of Fame Academy it got just 7m (30%). It's best left alone IMO.

It has been reported that Eastenders will go to 5 episodes a week. This may well be a bad idea as I think soaps struggle with four per week where quality is concerned. However any ideas where it should be scheduled? Sunday at 8 or maybe Wednesdays where BBC1 usually struggles?

I agree EE is suffering in the publics eye. The problem is the newspaper media have really had a go at the show in the last few years and once that view takes root in peoples minds its very hard to shift. People who dont watch it or who are sometime viewers then slag it off simply because they have read it in the papers.
In this day and age 8 million is a very good audience and brings valuable share (BBC1 would be struggling if it wasnt there providing a leg up to other shows) but I agree when compared to its powerhouse past it doesnt look all that good.
Like I said in another thread, if ITV continue to cherry pick the the prize sporting rights and biggest stars under Michael Grade, alot of BBC1's schedule will be under threat.

The Bill on Wednesday night got 5.6m 25.8% share. I think it does better when there is only 1 episode a week. Maybe they should reduce it to one per week?

Ideally the BBC should be reducing EastEnders' number of episodes - not increasing them.

Firstly, thanks for the rating.

Secondly, it really depends what The Bill goes up against as to whether it does well. Traditionally, Wednesday is the show's best night because there's hardly anything decent on. Thursday usually suffers a bit if there's competition on the other side, but they have seen off Waterloo Road, The Innocence Project, New Street Law etc but have never been able to beat Holby City or Eastenders. Not like anyone expects it to beat the latter...

There were rumours that the programme was going to be reduced to a single episode a week. No idea whether it's going to happen or not, though.

I think the reality is that EE is a 'shell' of its former self. I watched it from episode 1 & it was really the only soap that I followed consistently. I just lost interest a couple of years ago & didn't mind if a missed episodes. This has gradually moved no longer watching it. I catch the odd episode usually if I am away in an hotel with work which doesn't have any digital channels & nothing else to do!! I keep hoping that when I watch it will show massive improvement to get me engaged again but not showing signs of it for me yet.

i stopped watching it a couple of years ago ...because it was boring rubbish....a newspaper's opinion would never sway what i watch

Fantastic Ratings for My Family Nearly Beating Emmerdale is amazing too.
It's a shame Eastenders isn't getting the 9 millions allthough it is due to hot weather Corrie are getting quite good ones but since the trial it has not been interesting at all and the things coming up don't sound very exciting either.

Well despite Easter weekend and glorious weather BBC ratings held up pretty well. ITV has almost flatlined, I thought Grease would do a better than 4 millions, seems very poor for the Boat Race but not sure what the peak might have been, and Ant and Decless Gameshow Marathon is almost 4 million adrift on its previous incarnation. Also despite all the money in grabbing back big time boxing the ratings are never anything to write home about.

Have just noticed the non-existant performance of the Peoples Quiz-note to BBC-this is what happens when you try to do intelligence based public service broadcast and dress it up as entertainment on a Saturday night.Oh and it shows what happens when the lottery draws arent part of the programme.

Five-minute breakdown for Doctor Who:
18:50....3.00m
18:55....3.77m
19:00....5.24m
19:05....5.98m
19:10....6.57m
19:15....6.73m
19:20....6.90m
19:25....7.05m
19:30....7.19m
19:35....7.47m
19:40....8.13m

19:45....5.64m
19:50....5.36m

The poor inheritance form the People's Quiz is costing it. Still next week it's after the football, so expect ratings to be up. GITW is directly up against the footie, so that will be down.
