Casualty shows that there is a place for a Saturday night soap. Do you think ITV will ever consider a 60 minute soap on a Saturday night? Maybe they could run it Saturday & Sunday nights at 7pm and only show Coronation Street & Emmerdale on weeknights. This could let them do a 1 hour Emmerdale on Tuesday nights & show Coronation St on 8.30 on Friday nights. Overall it would strenghten their share.

I was asking 'why' this wasn't on at christmas..I knew that it wasn't the same as the first film....

The days of big films at Christmas seem to be over..theres no 'big premieres' now, with people having Sky and DVDs.

I think it's to do with low ad revenue at Christmas so they show premieres at other times. Ironically though the first Harry Potter was only debuted in Christmas 2005 on BBC1, but because ITV signed the deal with Warner Brothers they get it along with a library of other films. The same thing happened with True Lies.

Wasn't it Christmas 2004, with them repeating it again the next year (I think it was Christmas Eve or something)? It's been shown every Christmas since 2004, twice on BBC One, and last year on ITV1.

but Casualty is a 'long running drama' and not a soap

and please don't give ITV ideas as a night off from soaps is good.

Don't forget the Darts final on BBC2 (what a cracking match it was). Can usually be relied on to pull a dedicated working-class audience away from Emmerdale and Coro St. It ran on till 8.30, so could have hit Wild at Heart too.

Waking the Dead will be down on last week in the face of stronger competition, and a rather impenetrable storyline which many will have given up on after 10 mins (I nearly did, and still don't really have a clue what went on).

1. Coro St 10.2m
2. Wild at Heart 8.1m
3. Emmerdale 7.9m
4. Waking the Dead 7.3m
5. Trial & Retribution 6.8m
6. BBC News 10pm 6.6m

others:

Darts (1800-2030) (BBC2) 3.7m (peak 6m+)
CBB (2100) (Ch4) 3.5m

An excellent primetime performance by ITV all weekend. That's the strongest Friday, Saturday & Sunday they have had in a long time.

I am surprised at how badly Celeb BB did on Friday night.

For the record a soap opera is an ongoing, episodic work of fiction, usually broadcast on television or radio. I think Casualty fits that bill.

Huge ratings for Corrie last night - possibly the biggest since last April? Panorama got pretty disappointing ratings as well.

My predictions for tonight at 9pm:
Judge John Deed 6.0m
Wild Caribbean 3.4m
Excess in the City: Bonus Bonanaza 2.8m
Celebrity Big Brother 3.6m
CSI 2.2m

Tonight did very well against EastEnders 22% or 5.5m would be considered good in any slot on ITV1 these days, never mind the toughest possible one. A share of 16% + would be considered a success against EastEnders or Coronation Street. Panorama, despite having a similarly human interest story only got 11% share. I dont think the BBC will be happy with that.
