Well I am glad to see I was wrong and that EastEnders got over 8 million viewers last night, although its still far behind Coronation Street with 9.5-10 million viewers. Tonight with Trevor McDonald really eats into the EastEnders audience, drawing over 20% of the audience.
BBC ONE should really try to dent Coronation Street - the decision to move Panorama back to 8.30pm on Monday nights was a bold one but they are not making an effort in the 7.30pm slot; Shopping the Supermarkets or whatever clearly is not going to interest anyone over Corrie. The BBC should be airing innovative and original programming no matter what is on the other side, not a poor relation to the tabloid-style Tonight.

Reality I suspect is that Tonight with Trevor McDonald is picking up viewers who are no longer interested in watching EastEnders. I had it on last night whilst doing various bits about house - a filler programme rather than must watch tv. If EastEnders was worthwhile watching again I suspect many would switch over.

Its not as if the schedules are overflowing with great programmes, so yes I would agree that they should programme a different genre while Corrie is on. I would like to see something that appeals to male viewers between 7-9pm. Personally i dont both much with TV at that time of the day because it generally offers me nothing. I prefer radio now mostly at that time.

That is the last edition of Play it Again, so why do that when the other 5 have been at 8pm? It obviously hasn't got massive ratings, but many people have enjoyed it, my grandparents to name two! I can understand the decision to re-schedule Castaway the first time, but now BBC1 are starting to look totally ratings obsessed.
It seems as if they saw the all-hours share on Sunday and thought they need to do something - but quite frankly no one really gives two hoots about BBC1's share apart from themselves and a few geeky people like me. About 2 million people though will be almightily annoyed that Play it Again has been dropped.

I would broadly agree. Moving Castaway around will destroy whatever following it has. Isn't there supposed to be a BBC3 followon show? Presumably that cant start until 7pm when BBC3 opens.
And moving shows with one episode left is a bit pointless as well. Why dont they just let it play out where it is? Play It Again hasnt be bad. Obviously it hasnt set the world on fire, but it was thoughtful & intelligently made.
I'm surprised they havent moved SuperStorm though if they are the mood to axe poor rating shows.

The problem for the BBC is that if primetime ratings are 2 million it provides ammunition for those who think the BBC should be providing value for money for the licence fee-ie by making programmes that large numbers of people are going to watch.However if a primetime show gets 12 million it provides ammunition for those people who think the BBC should be providing value for money for the licence fee-ie by making and standing by programmes that cater for minority interests.
Either way someone will slag them off.
The BBC failure here is not recognising that Play it Again is a version of a concept that peaked in popularity a long time ago-and that they should have put it on BBC2 where no-one would have batted an eyelid at 2 million-and your grandparents would not have had their enjoyment curtailed!

Looks like The Apprentice is establishing itself once again-on a night where the BBC usually struggles. City Lights was beaten last year overall by Life On Mars and is shedding viewers quite alarmingly now-looks like it may struggle to make a third series.
Two ratings giants-Robson Green and David Jason are tasting a couple of rare defeats lately.
