I think the main problem for Grease, and advantage for Joseph, is the lead in from Doctor Who. Clearly Who is being moved around a bit to accomodate Joseph. Saturdays are becoming competitive all year round now which is interesting.

I think the main problem for Grease is that it's crap.

The Doctor Who factor can't explain this - Any Dream Will Do went up from 4.8m to 6.1m from 7.30 to 8.30, while at the same time Grease went from 3.8m to 4.2m. That's a pretty big difference - and nothing to do with DW.

Grease may improve with the live shows, the auditions have been a bit pedestrian.

I wonder how Kingdom will perform tonight, it seems like typical Sunday night drama, shoud do ok.

ITV1 continue to own Sunday nights as BBC One do Saturdays at the moment.

My coments were more meant that having Doctor Who occupy 45 minutes sometime between 6.30 & 8.00pm every week, limits ITV's scheduling options.

Being crap never stopped a show getting good ratings

And poor old Edna deserves better than 2m. Herself & Al Murray have been great since the start of the year but have got lousy raings.

Stephen Fry is the new David Jason. National icon, etc. I reckon its good for 7.5m tonight. Maybe 8m at a stretch.

I hope that David Gest rubbish doesn't do well.

Not only is he quite scary on all those trailers (and radio ads), it will mean the end of the faux-celebrity, whose only claim to fame is being on a reality show.

Well he has a few claims to fame other than being on a reality show, but I take your point to some extent. He is only known by the general public for that one show.
I would guess 3.5m for Gest tonight. Any other guesses?

Although, close on 35% audience share at that time also gave it the highest audience share of the evening.

Doctor Who's early start time really dented the ratings last night. The episode was down 1.7million from last weeks 8.0million.

I actually can't believe the BBC are treating their second biggest show so badly, just to ensure Any Dream Will Do and Grease Is The Word can start at the same time. This needs sorting out! NOW!!! Actually very mad! ADWD and GITW are TV dross, so who cares who gets the most viewers?! Its Saturday night rubbish!

The Daleks deserve better than 6.3million viewers!!

It's nothing to do with ensuring Any Deam Will Do starts at the same time as Grease - it's simply to do with fitting everything in. ITV are moving Grease to make sure it starts at the same time as ADWD - not the other way round.

Why would BBC bother trying to compete with Coronation Street??

Exactly. And on Sundays they completely throw the towel in.

19.35 - 20.00 BBC News, Regional News, Weather

DW will probably be the biggest multi-channel programme today bar sports. The Sunday repeat does a good job for BBC Three - its always at the same time of 8pm which helps.

Which actually does better than some of the weekday shows they put against CS

Which suggests that a lot of people forgot/did not know it was on so much earlier and tuned in around 7.00.

Serious own goal by the BBC planners yet again.

So the BBC are doing some sneaky start times to catch out the competition ?

I hope those who moan about Coronation Street's running time will be suitably upset by the BBC giving a little leg up to Joseph by starting it a minute early!

I agree! Don't forget the 7ish million watching Emmerdale and 10m for corrie, Its unbelievable!!
When you compare these ratings to a programme like the Apprentice which gets 5.5m for far superior telly!

OT: Should be interesting to see what the BARB ratings are for next Saturday when Any Dream Will Do and Grease Is The Word are both live at the same time.

I can't imagine ADWD will lose.

Of course last week's 8million could have been up due to the football which preceeded it, as well as the earlier start times for this week.

Given that the ratings are already declining due to the good weather, would Michael Grade not be better trying to shift the ITV news to 11pm? Once we get into July and August in particular, 10pm to 11pm could be a primetime slot, as people that were out for the evening enjoying the sun will be more likely to be home by then if they have work the next day.
