Channel 4 pretty much maintained a lead the entire evening, except when Ugly Betty was on, and even that did very well. ITV also held up very well considering the competition, but BBC One didn't have a great night at all.

Do you have the top 30 rated shows?

BARB has the Top 30 for each channel on its website:

www.barb.co.uk

But no Neighbours - they now only list ratings per showing, not combined audiences.

I thought dancing on ice would get around that with every Reality show (except big brother) the ratings grow with the show

I think DoI started and finished with 11m+ last year, and averaged about 9.5m in between, so it's down on last year by some measure - and against a BBC1 that is waving the white flag of surrender this time round.

Next week's BBC1 schedule is even worse than this weeks:

7.20 Extended Just for Laughs (a 5.30pm show padded out to 45 mins and thrown into battle against one of ITV's most popular shows!)
8.05 Lottery
8.50 Casualty
9.40 Vicar of Dibley series 1 repeat - AGAIN!
10.10 News; 10.30 MoTD [which nows seems to be set-in-stone in scheduling terms, even if it leaves little room for scheduling anything inspiring post-9pm]

I believe the following week's will go something like:

5.40 Just for Laughs
6.10 Continuity announcement: "Please retune to ITV1"
6.11 Joins News24
10.10 News
10.30 MoTD

Looks like ITV1 is trying to see if it can beat the low achieved for Excess: Bonuses in the City this Thursday with a one-hour documentary by Jeff Randall (who is good, I admit) examining the great pensions scandal. A programme on a very dry subject matter and no doubt dominated by actuaries, city fat cats and lawyers is presumably not going to pull a big ITV1 audience - could ITV1 actually sink below 1m viewers for a prime-time 9pm show?

(Ironically, I will probably watch it... )

Just checked BARB's website, and it got 9.83m for episode one. So I was a bit out - but I think it may have peaked at 11m. I distinctly remember some surprise that a show they expected to flop somehow pulled up to 11m.

It did peak at 11million last year for episode one. ITV will still be very happy with 8.6million. It will probs be about 9million when the final figure is released.

Hope PokerFace did well. Didn't see the last series, but watched it last night and I was very impressed. Very addictive...

As might I (watch it that is) so that's 2 people already. All we need to find is another 1,899,998 people.

Isnt it a 2 part show from Jeff Randell?

I reckon ITV need to take a few hits in order to change the impression of the network away from the current image. These shows will over time change the perception of what ITV offers.

Next week they actually have Manchester United v Portsmouth in the FA Cup at 5.05pm, followed by Wind Up TV at 7.20 (not sure where you got the idea of an extended Just for Laughs from), a brand new show presented by Vernon Kay. Then, like you say, the always popular Lottery and Casualty.

The following week it's the start of Graham Norton's new show When Will I Be Famous? - details here...http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pro...nplaced_famous Plus the start of the Six Nations.

I dont think the FA CUP and 6 Nations will do as well this year for the BBC though they will still win the slot probably. From ITV's perspective it is of marginal benefit to bid for either because the rights have been pushed up to a level where a commercial broadcaster cant make a profit on them through advertising. Maybe with the BBC reigned in a bit, sport may be more vaiable for ITV now?

I knew about MoTD Live, hence me starting at 7.20pm. I got the extended Just for Laughs from today's Sunday Times Culture supplement, but they are obviously wrong. I thought it seemed a highly improbable way of competing with DoI. Mind you, I'm not sure Vern will do any better!

And a Dibley repeat is just lame for prime-time Saturday night at this time of year.

The Norton talent show is obviously their answer to DoI for this season, so we shall see how it fares.

A rip off on Britains Got Talent. Or Oppotunity Knocks. Or the Gong Show. Or something.

With the audiences the FA Cup still offers, I'd be staggered if ITV doesn't have another shot at the rights, particularly as the BBC must be very defensive with all the flak about Jonathan Ross's salary and the moaning about not getting the fee increase they hoped for. They can hardly throw mega-money at it to keep the rights.

The FA Cup bid would be of marginal profitability. They would pay in rights more than the ad revenue they can get per match. I agree it has bragging rights from an audience & share perspective but from a commercial reality its dubious. They only show the Champions League because the BBC cant really bid for it due to sponsorship issues.

I am sure I read that the BBC,when Greg Dyke was in charge, actually outbid ITV for the Champions League rights but were turned down part due to loyalty to the commercial broadcaster. I think part of the strategy was to pay off a number of the big sponsors, which presumably was not considered viable.

Wow - excellent ratings for Harry Hill. Maybe word is finally getting round!

Poor ratings for the DoI results show - nearly beaten by a New Tricks repeat. Looks like Pokerface didn't do the business for ITV1 and DOI suffered as a result. Or the first 2 hours was enough for anyone...

Good to see Walking the Dead recovering from last week's flop. Reasonable ratings for Casualty too, considering it overlapped the main DoI show.

A bit early, but I wonder how Top Gear's return will do next Sunday?

Given the surprisingly large media interest at the tme of Hammond's crash, I would expect something well north of the usual 4-5m TG audience, even up against Wild at Heart.

8m?

If 9m tuned in to watch gobby Jade evicted from CBB on Friday night following the media interest last week, I don't see why TG can't peak at something similar, although the average for the hour will be lower.
