Just a small point. You share %'s are a mathmatical impossibility based upon your viewing figures. If 6.5m = 30%; 24% = 5.2m and 9% = 1.95m

O really? How come - I'm not annoyed or anything just generally interested how you work out share percentages based upon viewing figures? Also as Britain's Got Talent is 90 minutes and The Apprentice and Big Brother are 1 hour, doesn't that need to be taken into account as well?

you have a point re BGT going for 90 minutes tonight: i forgot. But the other 2 run from 9-10pm.

So if the Apprentice gets 6.5m which turns out to be 30% then 100% (ie the total tv audience must be 6.5m x 100/30 = 21.67m. So if Big Brother gets 2.4m that would give it a share of 2.4/21.67 = 11%.

I need to get out more I know

The Beeb used to move EE to 8.00 when Emmerdale had a special but stopped doing this to prevent accusations of chasing ratings.I wonder if they will revert to that strategy if Emm continues with the hour long shows?”

Look it really is very simple.
Due to F1 they added an extra half hour to tuesday's episode and who cares if in the process they put the BBC out.

To say ITV is trying to kill EE is just ridicolous and by that logic the BBC are hardly free from guilt - eg. scheduling Holby City against the Bill. Why should ITV put their schedule out to show it when it favours the BBC. Are you suggesting ITV should not show it during EE in case it affects their ratings - how are they going to be successful if they think like that? Why should they work around BBC's schedule - they are effectively a competitor of theirs. And if they really wanted to kill EE (which they don't) then they would schedule hour long Corrie epiodes on Monday from 7.30pm - and that really would show EE up big time!

And in terms of chasing ratings.......its not desperation...it is simply how ITV makes money - not something the BBC have to worry about as they simply get billions of pounds in handouts into their pockets but thats another topic altogether so won't go down that road.

Th reality is nowadays with most of use having access to somekind of recording device and 75% with freeview then two programmes going head to head should not be a problem. As already pointed out the BBC 3 10pm repeat ratings was higher than ususal so why is it such a problemLikewise ITV 2 show Emmerdale repeats. And of course if you don't have Freeview or a VCR/DVDR/PVR there is always the EE Sunday omnibus on BBC 1.

LOL no don't worry I'm glad you told me - I've never been good at percentages! And I still think ITV1 putting Emmerdale up against EastEnders is a bit of a desperate spoiler tactic. They've done it to benefit Trinny and Susannah and it's always proved unsuccessful anyway.

Zoe - totally agree about Holby City - the show CONSISTENTLY gained 6-7m and 30% share on Tuesday's whereas Holby Blue is well down on the slot average...

PS. On the subject of kamikaze BBC ONE scheduling, which idiot decided it was a good idea to show Lenny's Britain at 9pm and get a share of 11%!!?!??!? Bet ya any monies, Peter "Luvvie" Fincham had a say in that stupid move... Move it back to 10.35 where it belongs...

Wow, BGT ratings just keep rising. ITV will be pleased.

The overall audience viewing figures were very high last night. Possibly because it was raining like a monsoon in many places or maybe because there were good shows attracting different audiences. Springwatch, Apprentice, BGT all would attract a different core audience with some overlap obviously.

I flipped over to watch a bit of BB last night. It was god awful bad IMHO. You would wonder if it can recover its audiene figures. The core audience seems to be down at around 4m this year vs 5m last year and 2m of that core audience desert it when ITV put on a 16-34 friendly show. I wonder if Marco Pieree White in Hells Kitchen will do similar damage to BB when it starts?

This demonstrates that when the TV channels do have something worth watching on they can get between 6-7 million viewers. Around 15 million people were watching The Apprentice, Britain's Got Talent and Big Brother at 9.00pm last night.

Does anyone know what Corrie got?

Somebody should inform Sir Alan Sugar.

From todays Media Guardian:

Piers Morgan: a poor man's Nick Hewer?
Last time we saw Piers Morgan and Sir Alan Sugar in the same room on TV, the former Mirror editor was getting fired on the celebrity version of The Apprentice, which apparently led to some kind falling out between the two. Monkey can't imagine why. Anyway, last night they went head to head on TV again in the 9pm hour, when The Apprentice final on BBC1 was up against Britain's Got Talent on ITV1, featuring Morgan as a judge. Ratings-wise BGT was ahead for most of the hour, before The Apprentice surged ahead in its final 15 minutes with 7.4 million viewers, as Sir Alan was doing his finger jabby thing in the boardroom. This prompted the following email from Sir Al to Morgan today: "Piers, you see when I get on at 9.45 all others lose out. It must come as bitter pill to swallow for Simon but as a poor man's Nick Hewer you haven't done too bad. Let me know if you want some media training. Love, Alan." Well, Piers, it's now over to you. Care to post about this on your Britain's Got Talent blog?

I am impressed with The Apprentice and BGT (which I don't understand why people watch another talent show). With BB, it is going through a short time ratings dip this week.

It's not just 'another' talent show though is it, because it's different to what we've been having over the past few years. I think it's quite easy to see why people would rather watch that than Big Brother.
