DVR-720H copy problems
honey1997

I purchased the above machine nearly two years agao, and have been really pleased with its performance, exceeding my expectations in many ways, with very few coasters.

This week, it has started to take 3 attempts before successfully dropping a HD recording onto DVD-R (Verabtim 8X), at high speed, with the first two attempts showing the error message "COPY ERR"

Is it possible to defrag the hard disk on this unit ?

Should i consider initialising the hard disk ?

If so, how do oyu do it, as the manual states you only see this option on the menu if the file system becomes corruoted ?

Is there any other option I can try ?

I hope it is not an indication that the unit is about to die on me.........

Hi

It is unlikely to be a problem with the hard-drive, more than likely the DVD's themselves.

There are fake Verbatim, likely sources of fake discs are Ebay or computer fairs.

If they are genuine and in a cake pack, it is sometimes possible to have several damaged ones together. Try using a different make or take a disc from somewhere else in the cake pack.

Also you could test using a DVD-RW in Video mode to help rule out a problem with the recorder.

Hi Phil,

thanks for the advice, which gives me some hope

The disks I use are indeed in cake tubs of 25, purchased from SVP. My current one was bought about 3 months agao, and is two thirds empty.

I think the 8X may not be stocked for much longer, so I have just ordered another 100, so I will try the new tubs to see if they help.

I will let you know in a week or so how I get on.

cheers for now
